So my wife and I flew to Edmonton to pick up the new 2019 Tundra CM Platinum on Oct 18.

Planned a nice leisurely 7-8hr drive home on Sunday.

Everything was going to plan when....

two deer appeared on the highway, one in each lane. Travelling 123km/hr, my options were limited. I hammered on the brakes, swerved left to miss the deer that was aimed centre grill, corrected back in an attempt to split the two, all whilst the ABS is doing its thing, and then.....THUD!

This truck stopped pretty damn quickly once I stomped on the brakes. I didn't come to a complete stop, but slowed enough to really mitigate the damage. This could have been way worse. I was initially really upset that a truck with less than 600km, yes you read correctly,
600 kilometres just hit a deer. I drove my 2008 Tundra for 11 years and didn't come close to hitting wildlife. I'm grateful my wife and I are ok and our kids still have parents. The truck can be repaired.

Now the silver lining. I wanted to, from the start, upgrade the grill from the nice looking factory grill to the 2019 TRD Pro grill. I was quoted from dealership about $1600 plus install and taxes. So now, with my insurance claim which is covered without deductible because of accident caused by wildlife I have an option to upgrade to an "after market" grill (even though its still a Toyota part). Ill have to pay just under $1,000 for this upgrade. So I'm happy to say Ill be getting my new TRD Pro grill installed sooner rather than later. I will post pictures once its been installed.

If there is any advice on this anyone can offer like any affected parts near or around the new grill that I may want to look into. Do I need to get a matching hood bulge that works with the TRD Pro grill?

So sorry to hear. But at least you’ll get something cool out of it!

My 2019 Platinum just got rear ended at a stop light causing 15k in damage. Got hit so hard by a freaking Prius that my back bumper, tailgate, tow package, and both sides of the bed are crunched, and forced me into the vehicle in front of me so the front bumper, grill, and grill surround are damaged as well.

As much as it sucks to see my brand new baby all messed up, it’ll allow me to upgrade to the off road front and back bumpers that I wanted, for a small fraction of what I was going to have to pay had I just switched them out on my own.

Seem like that's when disaster often strikes ~ when the vehicle is nice and new. Sorry this happened to you on the way back home.

Ouch, good thing you and the wife are okay. If the hood bulge isn’t damaged, you shouldn’t need to get another one. It will match the TRD Pro grille.

$1600 PLUS install and taxes, holy cow. It can be done here for >800. Are they quoting a new TSS sensor with that? You only need 2 parts, grille and sensor cover.

Sorry about the accident in the new truck, that stinks.
