It’s an easy install, more positioning than anything. Without rails, it’s shorter clamps for the center piece. And the locking pins sit higher. It’s just a matter of slightly different hardware they’d send you. Same result.

Talked to diamondback, they said the same thing...I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t a better fit with the bed rails. Thanks everybody

I would really like to get some towers for putting on roof boxes (preferably two) to go camping with. I want to put them on an HD but be able to take them off easily when I'm not camping so that I don't have giant empty, cab-height bars on. The Diamondback doesn't come off, the Thule's bars are too big for roof boxes and the Yakima won't install on a Diamondback at all. I'm not asking for a fricken Unicorn here. At least i didn't think I was.

Has anyone run one of these with the cleats removed?

So I think I'm gonna go with a diamondback cover as well. Not really sure why I want to spend this kind of money on something that I don't absolutely need o_O But anyway, where are you guys picking these up? Looking for a deal.

edit: my other option is a used ARE overland shell for the price of one of these new. Its not the same color as my rig though. Decisions :angrygirl:

I put my DB HD on today. This is the Mack Daddy of tonneau covers. It is built like a tank. I should have done this when I purchased my truck instead of the Extang solid fold 2.0. That cover leaked and they are made cheap. I purchased my DB through their outlet store and saved $520. It apparently didn’t pass QI due to the bends at the beveled edges. I can’t tell. Looks perfect to me. But anyway I would highly recommend this cover. It is that good!0D362893-B912-460C-904F-8ED0479518CD.jpgAEC508DA-3986-40D9-9996-BFC91B4A3366.jpgD44F8221-1A09-40EF-8FB5-0DF8A916F47C.jpgACBC13BC-FBD2-4796-A6D8-A06E107BC6B0.jpg

I ordered mine directly from DB last year. Not sure if they offered blemish discounts back then, but if they had and if I’d known about them, I would’ve gone that route just to save a few bucks more.

All in all I’m very pleased with my DB SE. I’ve taken it on and off a few times and have had to readjust a few things as a result, but so far it’s held up well and has been waterproof, even when going through a high pressure wash (with a few minor drops around the tailgate area). The secured locks are a real plus, too.

I had no idea that they had a discount center. But it looks great and it is with out a doubt the best you can get.

I had no idea either until someone mentioned it on here. It’s not just their covers. There are accessories in the outlet store as well. Some are used and some are items that didn’t pass QI. Definitely some good deals.

Here you go folks, their wonderful “Outlet Store”:
    https://diamondbackcovers.com/collections/diamondback-outlet

I frequented the site for several weeks hoping for a Crewmax version, but only found several extended cab versions (6.5’ beds). Thankfully I was lucky enough to find a nice gentleman a few hours away selling a 2-yr old HD for just $1,500. Couldn’t be happier with the purchase, and I expect this thing to outlast me, much like the Tundra- ha!!

Any of you guys install bed lights with this cover? Thinking about going oem but it requires drilling. Let me know what you guys got!

    A bunch
I've got 2 cheap LED strips mounted on the cross member of the cover, wired into the cargo circuit. Work very good, the aluminum helps spread the light out some too. Couple connectors right there for if I need to take the cover off.

I went with OEM....hefty price from the “stealership” to get it done, but I use the bed quite a bit and knew I was going to use every bit of that lighting.

For those of you that have this topper, how practical is it if you have to put tall items in the bed? I do haul a lot of boxes and sometime I just need some more height. On my Taco I had an extang solidfold and it was easy to just fold it up and snap it into place and didnt' have to remove it.

I'm just thinking this through. Or I could see myself going down to costco one weekend and make an impulse buy on something big and would be SOL if the cover was in the way. I'm starting to see the trade offs with this badass cover.

Well, from what I've seen, it's not hard to disconnect the gas struts and fold one end over. But that only gives you access to about 40% of the bed. Alternatively, the point of this one is you can strap large items on top as the max load of it is more than the bed itself.

Very nice! Did the hinges on yours come painted black? I've seen photos of other black Diamond Backs with chromed/polished hinges. They look a lot better when they match.

I've got mine ordered and am waiting for it to come in.

Regarding lighting, I purchased a set from Matt Gecko. They mount to the bottom of the bed rails. I'll post pictures once everything is installed.

Yes it came the way you see it. And I agree that it does look better when it is all black. I’m extremely pleased with my purchase. This cover is so well built. The only regret is that I didn’t buy it sooner.

Like Jpod says, you can load stuff on top, but if you plan to load it up with anything heavy, get the HD.

Removal is easy, but obviously not as quick as folding up a soft tri-fold. And afterwards you have to re-install it and adjust it again once installed (about a 15-30 minute process for me).

If I hauled tall loads frequently, I probably wouldn’t have gotten the Diamondback due to the inconvenience of removal and reinstallation. But that’s just me.

I got the SE asked them to install the extra cleats like the HD. Better to have them do it, since they probably have a jig to set it in. That insures good fit up.

I am happy with the SE I and will probably never need to put 1600lbs on top but It would be nice. Same reason I bought the 5.7.

If I am understanding you right, you should look at the KB Voodoo hi rise cross bars. Not sure if this will link to the site if I just paste it in here. https://www.kbvoodoo.com/shop/toyota-tundra-hi-rise-crossbars-for-use-with-tonneau-covers
