Thank you Don. It has been a while. Figured you were flying a lot.

You’re so right on having a plan and that’s most likely where they were going next (back of the house). The sheriff deputy went through the motions I did to put things in perspective. He was relieved I had no plans of exiting my home.
I was in the hallway in this picture.
    8DCFD257-2A98-4EEC-98A5-35966D8DFC01.jpg

From inside that hallway, I can see the front door, back door with all the windows:

There’s nothing behind me for a bit, so if they get behind the house, we are on our own unless someone hears “whatever.”

Chris, Sorry to hear about your losses. prayer to you and your family.

There are a lot of good home security camera out there. Arlo, Nest and some other good wireless setups to capture and identify the potential threats...

My wife would, trust me. I would go nuts. She is rubbing off on me after 18 years though. Now we set up for Christmas on Thanksgiving, weather depending due to lights on the roof and snowpack.

    That’s next.

Only issue is our internet sucks out here, so I will need to get a healthy DVR setup and set up a website to monitor cameras in 780p even though it’s recording at the highest resolution.

@T-Rex266 and a few others have really brought me up to speed on camera systems.

I hear ya. Great that you were prepared, but I’m sure it’s pretty unnerving to go through it. Thank goodness for your pup. Hope you pampered him a little for doing a great job! Also, as much as it sucked, I’m thankful it was you at home and not the wife or kids.

I hadn’t heard that said before. I’m also battling, and I’ll try to remember that.

It sounds like you have it covered while you're home. I think cameras are a great idea if you can make it work. Have you considered one of those driveway alarms? That would give you some advance notice the next time someone decides to "mistake" your driveway for a public road. Also, what about when you're gone. Do you guys have an alarm system?

I have gates that are now locked full time. Driveway issue is probably taken care of now for the average Joe Blo thief just driving around.

Signs have been put up about the dog, and he is outside when we are gone. He hangs out out front and is very visible.

Cameras are as far as we plan on going. For the most part, someone is home 95% of the time.

    Chris,
Terribly sorry to hear your week sucked buddy!
I had the same issue, but could see the fuckers drive down my driveway on camera and I was miles away.
You HAVE to run electric gate openers, that lock. Even with this situation - someone, some day, will not shut the gate behind them if it’s a manual open/close. I did that manual shit for 3 years. Which was waaaay too long!
Single best purchase being on property was a gate you can’t see through, and electric openers.
The convenience, doesn’t leave room for error.
(They auto-open on way out, and auto-shut after you exit, and auto-lock).

After your butt is done puckering from ponying up the $$, you will feel 100X better, family will feel safer, I guarantee it!!!!

This is what people see when they hit our dead end road now. They have no option, but to turn around. Where before, they had a nice big circle 800ft down in front of my house.
I purposely and randomly move our 3 vehicles in/out of garages and whatnot. Just so there isn’t ever a pattern. (Not that anyone could see them, but if someone was to get out of their car and look around the gate).
