NSV Light Bar Install Tips

Just got NSV Light bar, Have 2018 Tundra with DRLs.
So the question is:

1. I removed battery, but still do not know how to get to Headlight Motor plug?


Watched video a hundred times and read through pdf !
Any insight would be much appreciated!

 

This was by far the most aggravating. Hopefully someone has a more pleasant answer but here is what I did, and hopefully you have small hands.
- remove grille surround and remove the plastic trim between bumper and bottom of headlight.
- keep battery out
- to remove plug reach up from under headlight with a small screwdriver to push on the tab. with other hand from above, reach into frame well to pull on the plug. this is the easier part.
- to reinstall plug, hold the end of the plug between your two fingers reaching up from under the headlight. with the other hand from above use a couple of fingers in the frame well to guide the plug to its fitting, and push in to click.

it literally took me 15 or so minutes for this one task, good luck.

Are the DRL’s on the Gen 2 light bar supposed to dim with the headlights? Or is there just one brightness level?

 

If anyone is interested in just the NSV interior switch panel then I have posted mine on eBay. Don't think I'm allowed to link you to the listing as a new member, but should be easy to find.

 

I believe they stay at one brightness level.

 

They’re too bright. I’ve been pulled over twice already. Any way to dim them? Or keep them from coming on at night?

 

The NSV is useless. It’s basically a hood ornament. If it doesn’t dim with the headlights, it can’t be on, especially at night. You can switch off the DRL’s in daytime but they come on automatically at night regardless of switch position. You will blind oncoming traffic and potentially be the cause of a wreck. I have pulled the fuse on mine and am not able to use it. Worst money I’ve ever spent. I’ve already gotten a ticket. Don’t need another one.

 

Just pull pin #9 in the harness near the light bar. This will disable the DRLs to only when you have the switch on in your truck, but still retain the rest of the functions. I too was pulled over twice for the DRLs even when mine where dimmed.

I have followed the directions on my install and I finally got the thing to work...granted, only when the truck is in reverse Attached is a page out of the directions for the 3rd gen harness...I have a 2014 and have installed the 2018 LED headlights with an iHacker harness...I have NOT installed the NSV headlight harness jumper cable...I HAVE installed the t-taps according to the directions. Any idea why they only activate when I'm in reverse?! Is it literally because I need the NSV jumper harness to work properly? With the attached image from the installation directions, I'm speaking on specifically step #28; I have tapped the correct brake controller harness wires but...I am challenged when it comes to electrical work so forgive my naivety.

I did Installed the nsv lightbar on my 19 trd pro.followed the manual as well as the video installation. My problem now is i don’t have the strobe function. I tried doing manual high beam but it didnt work. My factory drl is always on but doing the manual off function it wont work either. Need input on how to troubleshot this delima.. thanks in advanced.

 

I was under the impression that they did away with the strobe for legal reasons. Mine doesn’t strobe. Not sure where you got yours but HR had a disclaimer about this. What does manual high beams mean? Are you saying the bar doesn’t come on with your high beams? The button for the light bar needs to be engaged. Only then will the light bar work and only with your truck high beams on.
Are you saying your light bar drl’s don’t disable with the button off?

 

My factory control on the steering wheel for drl wont Work.beforehand i can use it to turn it off.

tried doing the high beam on my truck but my trucks function wont work.

@Tundyfundy would be correct, NSV has done away with the Strobe feature on these light bars due to Safety reasons, I apologize!

The strobe only works on V1 harnesses and directions. Pull pin #8 on V2 harness and insert into empty pin slot #3...from my understanding, this is the work-around to enabling the strobe function in-lieu of the toggled DRL...my only question is if doing this modification for the strobe to function, does this enable the DRL to ALWAYS be on or is that disabled now...personally, the DRL on the lightbar is neat, but useless to me...I'd rather have the strobe...all other functions are amazing and I'm glad I bought this lightbar!

 

so you did put pin#8 to pin#3 slot? did it work on you?

 

I apologize for making it seem I did...this is something I have read much on and plan on doing, however, not completed yet...

 

My bar has a button to toggle the drl. Anytime switch is on DRL runs, Anytime switch is off DRL is off. I turn it off at night because they dont dim. I also didnt have to depin anything. everything was plug and play but no strobe.

 

Does anyone experience your trucks high beam function won’t work after the nsv install.

 

I too have the same feature and it works as suggested...I will eventually (when I have time) depin my #8 and insert in pin #3 and hope (from what others have completed) my toggled DRL transforms to a toggled strobe feature...one thing I do not know for certain is if when repinning the bar will cause my now toggled DRL to always be on and I will.lose the ability to turn the DRLs off when converting my DRL switch to a strobe? Essentially, turning mt V2 harness to the V1 harness...

I have had no problems with high beams but just make sure, and it sounds like you have, the headlight stalk is on manual-mode for enabling the NSV to shine bright when you activate the high beams...if you don't have high beams at all, time to get under the dash and look at fuses...

 

Heads up.. hope you won’t encounter this dilemma.

while pinning the 12 pins, you must heard of the clicking sound each time you pin. Beware that the orange plate on the other side has deformity that impedes the contact point to the female receiver.
In my case its has a defect.

i discovered while doing a thorough double checking on its pins because my high beam doesn’t work that time.

And finally got it.

 

So I have read through this thread god knows how many times now. I have a 2017 with DRL (amber) and installed the NSV bar. Everything seems to work correctly except the DRL switch does nothing. The DRL on the bar dim when the headlights come on etc. I did not install the blue jumper wire, is this why the DRL’s do not turn on and off? How do I properly hook up the blue jumper, the directions included weren’t the greatest at laying that out.

Second question. I am about to update to OEM LED TRD Pro lights. What will I need to change in my configuration, if anything, when I do the upgrade for the NSV to work correctly.

I just put mine in yesterday, cut the blue wire on the connector for the blinker , if you have factory installed OEM LED headlights . So don’t cut the blue wire , when you install OEM LED headlights then cut the blue wire . Ok when I push my DRL they come on , I cut the blue wire I have OEM LED lights .

 

They should dim when the headlights come on

 

I called HR and they told me otherwise. Are you positive?

Nope , you are right , i read that here . I’m sorry looked tonight and they don’t dim , but regardless of if I have lights on or not they do come on and go off with the DRL switch
