The Build: How it started and where it will go

    |July 28th, 2017|

I bought my Tundra for $18,700 in Missoula, MT.
At that time it had just south of 80k miles.

My last truck was totaled and it was time for a newer rig.

When I bought it it had a number of things already done. Weathertech floor liners, full stereo, tint, bed cover, rubber bed mat, and line-x. However it was an absolutely loaded truck from the factory. It did also have the revtek leveling kit on it when I purchased it. It was pretty clean, but I definitely overpaid for it.

Here's a photo in Butte, MT on my way home to Bozeman after picking it up

The next weekend we took it deep into the tobacco roots for some sick high country riding!
    IMG_2960.jpg

And the week after that we road tripped it to Whistler Canada!

After spending 10 days in Canada, I got home and it did not stay stock for a while

Shocks, wheel spacers, and tires all went on in the beginning of September

One of my good friends runs a detail business on the side and we spent a day and night cutting and polishing the truck.

Annnnd now to the fun part

In May 2019 I accepted a job with a big commercial construction company in Seattle WA. So I packed it up and headed west to Washington to begin my career.

Now that I am done with school, have a real, full-time career the build its really starting

    |August 15th, 2019|

Wheels were long overdue and Discount Tire hooked it up with a nice set of Method MR701's which I had mounted to my 33" Coopers. 35's will come when a daily comes and I can justify 35's.

In mid June I ordered up a high clearance rear bumper from BFF. Lead time was 16 weeks and it finally showed up!
    IMG_6982.jpg IMG_6984.jpg IMG_6983.jpg

I got a few powder coat quotes and they were about double what I expected. So as soon as i picked up the bumper I went to Home Depot for supplies.

    Rear Bumper Paint and Prep:

    Parts / Supplies Cost:
    $32 - 4 cans Rustolium bedliner
$12 - 2 cans Rustolium self etching primer
    $12 - 2 different styles of scotch-brite pads
    $8 - Acetone
    $12 - scuffing pad w/ drill chuck

    Tools:
set it up on Home Depot buckets

    Time:
    About a week to paint

I started the project on a Friday afternoon. First step was to scuff the whole bumper and remove any oxidation spots. Then I gloved up and wiped it down with acetone and began to prime. I gave it 2 coats of primer. once the primer was fully dried on Sunday morning, i began to bedline. and i gave it many coats throughout the day and week. rustolium says to give it a 3 day cure time. so i gave the bumper its last coat on Wednesday morning before heading to the office.

The next Came and it was time to install

    Tools:
    Milwakee 1/2" impact
    sockets
    wrenches
    allen wrenches
    small screwdriver

    Time:
    3 Hours

1st step was to remove the rear bumper and hitch assembly. kinda looked like a racetruck with no bumper and made me think twice about a rollpan

    IMG_7001.jpg

Next I lifted the rear bumper into place and reused the factory receiver hitch hardware and bolted the bumper on

Last was to install the lights, 7-pin, and flip-up license plate bracket. I had to run to the hardware store mid way through to get some supplies

    IMG_7007.HEIC.jpg

That brings us today. Whats next? I am thinking a daily driver 1st. Then a bed rack and RTT and sliders.

    Trip Photos!

Black Oak makes some grate lights. I have 2 of the 40 watt light pods. They are 10 watts per led in the spot pattern. If you are getting them for ditch lights I would recommend the spot pattern because the do have a lot of flood for being a spot. I have had them for about 2 years and am very happy with them. They have a better build quilt and water proof rating then ridged industry. In my opinion the only lights that might be better is baja design. For the cost the black oaks are a grate option.
