I am an Android guy that often browses the site in the dark. Unfortunately my phone doesn't have "night shift" like some newer iPhones to warm up the white colors. Some pages I view have a black background with white letters, they are much easier on the eyes at night. I am curious if there is an easy way to create a feature on the site, specifically mobile view, to toggle between night/day colors.

    My eyes would love it!

All jokes aside, I'm sure there are some settings you can change or an app to download.

Forget the thread dude, you're still here! You BETTER be staying! I hope that was some December fools Shenanigans or something!

I usually drop the brightness all the way down, no other settings I can mess with that I know of. I rarely download apps, I can look into it further though.

    ****car salesman suit on****

This is what I like about the iPhone the most. Apps are approved on the apple site, good to go. Not a lot of the crap downloads you get with other operating systems.
I was not always an Apple fan either. I cursed my 4, went to a 5, then changed it up to an S5, loved that phone for a minute until it needed a factory reset and battery life sucked. It was a downhill march after that.
Had a 6 for a couple years now and plan on staying with the 6 or the SE (same size as the 5s).
Same issue on our home PC. Tired of paying 80.00 per year for virus protection and the system being a mess after a couple years. We went to a MacBook Pro retina and haven't looked back.

    ****salesman suit off***

I would be careful of certain apps as well, but totally get where your coming from on how bright it gets. I set my phone for 7pm to 7am as night shift.

All good points. I went with Droid because I could rock it without a case. A naked iPhone is going to crack, so you need to put a cover on, even the lifeproof is a bit too big for my liking. I now have a Droid Turbo with a screen protector and it has been otherwise naked since day 1. I am probably going to jinx myself here. I take good care of my things but accidents do happen. I have dropped it on concrete, tile, you name it, zero cracks. This thing is tough, and so thin! Same goes for my previous Droid's, no case, no cracks.

My wife has an iPhone so I am pretty familiar. I do like her phone and may switch over next phone. I must say what I really love the most is FaceTime with the kids when they are with the grandparents who also have an iPhone. The Droid version, Hangout or something, sucks to be polite.

I run multiple computers, from XP to Server 2012 R2 to Windows 10 to Kali Linux and everything in between. My degree is in computer science with a focus on Windows and Linux network administration and security. Windows doesn't fill up with viruses like people love to claim it does any faster than Mac does. Symantec, in 2015, actually claimed that Apple was more open to security breaches than Windows. Additionally, in 2015, a number of Apple App Store applications were proven to be trojans, despite Apple being very strict about what apps they will publish in their store and not allowing installs from external sources. Apple is at least as vulnerable to attack as Windows, and by some accounts more vulnerable.

Windows encourages development and innovation by being open to developers while Mac likes to force people to adhere to a set of arbitrary rules. Windows is targeted more frequently by "hackers" simply because it's a better product with a larger market share. I worked for a number of years doing PC repair and 99% of the time when people complain about viruses or malware it happened because of something that person inadvertently installed during the course of installing some desired freeware (reading the dialogue when installing something is mas importante!)

I run freeware virus protection and have a relatively large network of physical and virtual machines and quite literally have not had a piece of malware in years on any of my personal or work machines.

Android is similar - it's open to developers and encourages innovation and development. iPhone is fantastic for people who want a basic device with some good features, but I assure you that anything an iPhone can do an Android can do in more and better ways (see development and innovation). There is a reason that Apple is losing market share to Samsung quarter after quarter, even after Samsung produced a phone that explodes (not really Samsung's fault, but the average consumer isn't really that informed about the details of these situations).

I really don't mean any disrespect and don't want to get in to this old argument, but as someone who has had every Google phone since the HTC Dream and has done a lot of Android OS development it hurts my feels when people knock such a robust and amazing platform. I've had 2 iPhones (work provided phones, figured I'd give Apple a chance) and outside of a couple of trendy features that Apple touts as "innovative" nothing much has changed or improved between the 4 and the 6, other than hardware specs.

Don't worry about allowing permissions to your Android apps. If the app is popular and has a good rating in the Play Store you are in good shape. Apple apps have all the same accesses and permissions (otherwise they wouldn't be able to do work) and no one worries about it, simply because they aren't asked to provide that permission.

I just follow my published computer science geek friend. Hates Apple for work, all he has at home. Good enough for me.

Thanks for the great info! I see where you are coming from, seems like this is your area of expertise! It's not mine and this question is going to show it. Is Freeware the name of the antivirus or is that a general phrase for free antivirus programs? Don't laugh!! I pay for Norton, am I wasting my money? Haha

Same here. But once I got an iPad pro w/ keyboard case, I don't hardly use my MBP.

I can agree with what @Backslider is saying about viruses and whatnot. But, regardless of the reason, if you're less likely to get a virus with Apple products, that's good enough for me.

There is an app on the Google Play Store Called "Twilight" I use it for my Android Headunit in my Tundra. It works really good it can make the screen darker (applying a filter) or change the color temp. You can easily turn it off in the notification pull down screen, you can set it up based on your location. I know the new Samsung phones should have the filter or will be getting the filter. I had it on the Note 7, worked great especially at night, but sadly the phone will no longer exist after the next update.

@MotoTundra - just means free software. I use AVG and Malwarebytes together. the best way to avoid malware and viruses is to avoid shady websites, don't click strange links in emails, and read everything when installing a piece of software.

I want to clarify that I have nothing against Apple, ease of use is important and because iPhone doesn't change its easy to use for millions of people that prefer it. There are advantages to locking down your platform like Apple does and I get that too. I'm only saying that the common reasons people claiming Apple to be "superior" are usually misconceptions. Folks should use what they prefer.

My wife forgot her iPhone one time and when we came back from the store to retrieve it, I ran over the phone with my Tundra. She has dropped it on the street near our house. It did not break. Granted it was on a piece of mud on top of a concrete pavement. Perhaps if my truck was 1 ton rather than 1/2 ton, it might have been damaged, haha. These suckers are pretty hardy. My iPhone has been flung across the stairway at home (I took a wrong step) and struck a wall. Still works like a charm.

I have Windows Defender on 3 home PCs for the last 7 years without any issues...This is Freeware.

I agreed with @Backslider about the misconception of iOS is superior than Windows. When I "release" a bug I would want to maximize my Return of Investment so I would want to infect as much PC out there as possible. Well, market share for Windows is over 90% so that will be the one to attract me the most.

If I could get all the apps I have on android (the ones I paid for) I might switch, I actually considered the iPhone 7 Plus when they had the last recall on the Note 7, I decided I would wait until they drop the next note hopefully it wont burn up.

Alright since I am trying to do this without downloading an app, I found something that helps. On a droid goto Settings, Accessibility, then Invert Colors. I don't think this is what it is designed for, and it's not nearly as nice as "Night Shift" but it does make the display darker on pages with a white background and dark text. Unfortunately I couldn't grab a screen shot with the inverted colors. Anyway, it's great for text, but horrible for pictures/graphics.

What kind of Android phone (Maker & Model) do you have? As most may not know android is very fragmented in that area. I know the newer Samsung phones have screen filter for night.

Motorola Droid Turbo, but it's not a big deal, hopefully my next phone will have something.
