I have one on mine and I like it. Makes oil changes less messy.

Reporting back, glad I went with the Fumoto valve. I try and sell it to my friends that do their own maintenance. Not literally the idea, very pleased.

Do you recommend the long or short stem?

They have a short stem as well. Just not sure if there is a clearance issue.

Is it possible to shear one off while wheeling?

You oil pan will likely have a gash at that point.
Mine is above the crossmember on a 6 inch lift.

mine went in smoothly and tightened with a crescent wrench. When it was fully tight the handle of the valve lined up perfectly.

When installing the Jowett housing what do you do with the center screen and spring? I put mine on this housing but now thinking about it the Fumoto valve wont work as it is supposed to. I am sure I will have to take it off next change and remove the spring?

    TIA, Mike

I have already changed my oil using the housing and it works as intended. I didn't get the valve with the nipple for a hose but the oil flows nice and smooth out of the valve.

Did you transfer the center screen and spring from the original housing into the Jowett?

    Thanks, Mike

Anything is possible, but it does not extend below the oil pan and that location is reasonably protected by my RCI skid plate. While I can reach my hand up there and open the valve or attach a hose, it would take wheeling over some sort of spiked object to be at risk.

Yup just bent the tabs to remove the screen and spring and moved them into the new housing. Reverse the process to put in the new housing and its way easier. I also put the same valve system on the oil pan with a RCI Offroad skid plate so looking for ward to the next oil change in a few thousand miles.

Back to oil changes, I may start a thread on this. I have a coworker that tells me every oil change he does or close to it, he puts in the amount of oil to be replaced with diesel. Runs it for 5 minutes and drains. He is getting 300,000 plus miles out of his car.

Has anyone done something like this or heard of doing this? Interested on reply.

I added 1 quart of ATF you my old Chevy Aveo that had a lifter tick. Ran it at idle for 1 hour, DO NOT REV ! Drained and refilled with fresh oil, tick gone and smooth as glass.

I had the canister style on my Tacoma. I actually like them as it made oil changes totally mess free.

I use something like this for draining the filter cartridge:

    https://www.amazon.com/Filter-Drain-Release-Toyota-Lexus/dp/B088LX23ZC

After the cartridge drains, there's not really any mess pulling the old filter out and replacing it. Just a little bit that you can pour out and wipe off of things. I plan to get the same setup on my Tundra between that and the fumoto valve. Need to get an RCI skid though.
