I’m thinking of paying for a good VPN for all the families devices.
    Is it worth it? Thanks.

    Short answer, nope.

Unless you're paranoid about someone hacking into your connection or you're on some sort of public connection all the time, don't worry about it. It's really only useful for those doing financial, security or other sensitive stuff online all day long. For the everyday user it's just another hop that's going to potentially slow things down. Plus the company running it gets to see all your traffic, so you have to trust them as well.

Ok. There are times I want to use one. My wife nonchalantly uses public Wifi all the time as well. The free app VPN seem to be really slow and that’s why I was thinking of getting one.

I have several VPN services I use. If you do decide to purchase one really research the company providing the service because there's a lot of scams out there.

I don't use a VPN 100% of the time except for from one of my PCs which I use to 'visit Sweden' (if you know what that means) for my TV shows and Movies. I run a firewall called Untangle and have a rule in it to forward all traffic from that one PC through the VPN. Works really well.

Yes, definitely do your research if you're going to do it. They're not all built the same and don't all offer the same level of protection, speed, etc. Anonymity is much better w/it, but you're not totally protected. So be careful if doing nefarious shit.

I use one at work, usually.

This all depends on what level of protection you want.

Definitely a "must use" on public wifi networks. I travel a lot and have been hacked in hotel networks. I use Nord VPN but I have found Express VPN is better and plan to switch. Express VPN is a very solid product. If your home network is Locked with decent security you don't need one for home network.

I use one whenever I travel with open WiFi or any open network for that matter.

Recently started using it at home more and more because of the cross-device tracking that Facebook and other sites. Anytime I did online shopping the wife got the same ads on her FB, almost ruined a birthday surprise.

She got smart to when I was shopping for a new Tundra too!

I’ve been using ExpressVPN for a couple of years now and I’m pretty happy with it. I purchased it before going on an overseas trip, I was and still am pretty happy with it.

I travel to Eastern Europe and occasionally to Hong Kong and Singapore (where hacking is a business) and I use IP Vanish on my phones and my Chromebook. It is also handy on some of these "free" wi fi networks here in the States. I also get a report from IP Vanish monthly to tell me of my activity and any offenses. If you are at home, I wouldn't worry so much (unless you use a hacked Amazon stick for black market viewing of current boxoffice shows) about hacking if your router has the latest update.

If you are at home, you probably don’t need it enabled. However, on open Wi-Fi access points I would definitely use one. I use Nord VPN and am happy with it.

I use one at work and anytime on public wifi, at the coffee shop, in hotels etc. It works fast on my phone, app that I click whichever region/country I want to be in, checking with whatsmyip.org confirms. At home I use it sometimes for TV shows, GOT for my wife, etc. I've been on PrivateInternetAccess about 4y now.

What brand of phones are you and your wife using? Google still bakes in VPN for their public WiFi service, not sure if other OEMs offer something similar.

It slows down my satellite connection too much. In public I use my phone hotspot to avoid hacking

I have used Nord VPN for 5 years. They do a good job of keeping me safe on my HTPC that I use for entertainment purposes.

My intentions are to be more secure, protect my kids and keep my info safe when my wife logs on to any public WiFi she can find. It looks like 5 bucks a month will cover five devices on average.
I am far from a tech savvy guy. I need all the help I can get but I ultimately am looking for more security.

I use Windscribe VPN on my phone, tablet and laptop. I only really turn it on when using public WiFi networks. Check out stacksocial.com for deals on VPN subscriptions. I paid a one time payment of $100CDN for a lifetime subscription to Windscribe.

I have had Cyber Ghost for the last 3 years. 7 devices and I pay $63.00 per year. I mostly use it because I go overseas frequently.
I also have a unique background that does gives me a little paranoia.
It works for Apple, Android, Mac and Windows. Just use your key and down load the one for that device.

    Retired person. Computer related career.

During domestic travels I'll use a windows laptop with Linux (Oracle VM + encrypted partition in case of theft) with Tor browser for online credit card stuff. After international travels I typically request new card numbers. International/domestic, if away more then a few months I'll open new account with limited funds. I use social media/email (sparingly) with two part security. For giggles I'll sometimes converse using the Vigenere cipher (Without foil hat).

    Never a problem.

I use them occasionally, particularly when I travel. I don’t use public wifi ever or even the “free” wifi some shops have since it’s basically open to the public. I actually pay my cell provider for “priority” traffic so I can just slave to my phone.

I used to have a separate VPN service, but I get one now as part of a bundled package with my password protection app. It’s not the fastest, but since I rarely need it I’m not going to pay for another service.

I'd be careful with Nord. They're doing some shady shit right now. Also, they didn't get such good marks on a recent security audit.
