Does anyone have experience, or suggestions on the best method to paint these center caps? It's a combination of mostly metal, and some plastic. I suppose scuffing them up with sand paper and applying primer would work, but what primer?

Any suggestions would be appreciated - thanks.

I have done it. To get the paint to stick you want to sand off that plastic film that is applied to the caps and rims. If you dont get it all off you may find it will chip. Aside from that use a quality spray paint, i used the metallic rustoleum line which is a primer and paint. Turned out great and holding up well.

My first attempt at painting wheels, or most anything else for that matter.

I am rolling on my winter wheels & Michelin tires until hot temperatures return, that's when the TOYO Proxes ST III's are at their best.

I just got a used set of these wheels and one of the center caps is in ROUGH shape.

    Two questions:

Do you just pull/pry to get those center caps off?

Then any tips to getting the Toyota emblem off and reinstalling?

I pushed the center caps out from the back side with the wheel off. Squeeze the little split tabs on the back of the emblem together with needle nose pliers and push out gently, one at a time. Line the tabs on the emblem up with the slots in the cap and snap it into place using your fingers. It was surprisingly easy.IMG_7616.jpg

I was proud of the results... However, the finish was ruined during the balancing process because the solvent used to clean the inside of the wheels before attaching wheel weight tape reacted with the paint like acid.

My local dealership performed the mount & balance, and they are going to have all 4 wheels professionally re-painted and sealed next week... I drop the truck off Monday afternoon. So it should look even better than before, and I will add the blue accents I have planned for these wheels after the dealer returns them.

Whoa, that's nice of the shop considering it was a rattle can job.

Automotive paint should hold up well if they prep it right and strip it all off.

I picked up the truck 1/2 hour ago, and the wheels look better than ever... better than I could have ever done myself. I am super impressed with my Toyota dealer stepping up and handling this issue without any fight whatsoever.
