Hey Guys, I recently had my gears changed from 430 to 488. This weekend I checked the temp with a heat gun and the rear diff where the drive shaft goes in to the rear diff was almost 180 degrees after I get off the hiway. My Question is, is this normal or is something wrong? Can someone please check theres and see if its normal? The outside temp was 70. Thanks

I don't really hear a noise but my tires roar so I cant really tell. Yes I changed the gear lube after the 500 mile brake in, Mobil 1 75w90. I thought about putting the rear on jack stands and listen for a noise but that's kinda unsafe. Can someone with 488 gears take the temp of yours and see what it is? 180 degrees may be normal.

I have 4:88s however I don’t have a way to take the temp. I am running 85/140 nitro synthetic gear oil in mine

When i get home im gonna touch my pinion, haha, and see if it is hot.

I can put my hand on a weber grille at 200 for a few seconds so maybe the pinion will feel the same?

Gotta see what a stock temp is

I have a feeling the diff has to get warm. It’s basically A drill bit going through metal. Even if lubricated it’s going to get really hot.
