We are thinking about building a wall around Atlanta so that the rest of Georgia can become a gated community.

What the people that spew hate about Californians moving to their towns don't seem to understand is that many of the people moving out probably have views and lifestyle desires that align with theirs. Why do you think they're leaving??? (I get that a lot of people here are just kidding)

Not to mention California is bigger than South Carolina, Maryland, Rhode Island, Maine, Massachusetts, West Virginia, Vermont, New Hampshire, Hawaii, Connecticut, Delaware, and Washington DC combined.

Texas is more than 100,000 square miles bigger, but California still has 50% more people. Does anyone really believe all those people are the same?

Our office is in N Idaho and love the area, but dont plan on moving there. Mainly to not be closer to work, but we like our smaller town.

But anything north of Hayden...South of Bonner Ferry, would be my 2nd choice. Tons of great fly fishng and bike trails. I like some of the rivers more then most places. Easy weekend trip to the Yak and the Clark Fork. 4 hour drive to Missoula head waters...Blackfoot and the Bitterroot. Some of the ski mountains open up mt bike trials in summer.

Everything is a short summer compared to California. Kinda get used to it, but -10 sucks no matter how you look at it.

Hell, I really enjoyed CA in the 90’s.

A few things would have to change for me to move back, but in 10 years there will be a For Sale sign in my front yard.

I’ve been thinking the Washoe Valley/Carson City area myself. Figure I’d only be hours away from the kids if they stay in the Bay Area.

The majority of Californian’s leaving are normal Americans. Yes some yuppies are going to Colorado and Austin.

You should move to Alabama. You have a buffet in your backyard: coons, opossum, squirrels and all other sorts of tasty critters. Most of our towns have a traffic light and sometimes a McDonald’s. All kinds of housing options are available: single wide trailers, double wide trailers and if your Bill Gates or something, triple wide trailers. Around here all you need a good heart and diabetes doctor. Everything else mostly works itself out. If I had to do it all over, I would go into denture selling. Could have retired already.

First of all, some avocado toast with bacon is pretty bomb :anonymous:

Second, this is how I spent my Tuesday in Cali chillin on an empty beach with my kid.

and for all the Cali haters who want to move I say ...

Edit: don’t ask how much it cost just to get to the beach. Gas out here is some bull$h.. :censored:

As a recent Avocado Toast convert (former avocado toast eye roller) I can agree that it is indeed the shiznit. Here was my conversion point:

If liking avocado toast is wrong, I don’t want to be right. And also, since you opened the door for it, Cambria last weekend with the family. Not sure how we were able to find space with all those crowds ;)

Cambria is great! I was fortunate enough to go to high school there with 34 other seniors in my class. Best experience ever - the surfers, hippies, farmers, and even a few wanna-be gangsters all hung out together on the beach on Friday nights and drank from the same keg buried in the sand. Good times.... There is no doubt that California has a lot to offer - especially when you live 2 hours from the ocean and the Sierra's. Still, even when I lived in Cambria or surrounding areas I remember wanting to live in the mountains. Now that I have a family and bills to pay, I want to live in a mountain town with less heat and still have job opportunity. Tahoe area is too expensive, no jobs, and is a cigarette butt away from burning down. I'm not a California hater - I've just always been drawn to a different climate. Even though the ocean is fun to visit - I can do without it. On the other end - I had a girlfriend in Cambria that felt claustrophobic if she was inland for too long. That town is full of fun hippie vibes:)

Edit - And I'm guessing that is Moonstone beach. Great surfing spot - even though I sucked at it!

Walla Walla Washington, the town so nice they named it twice. Great valley at the foothills of the Blue Mountains. ~35k population. Biggest town in the county. If you want bigger, you'll have to drive 1 -2 hrs depending on the direction you want to go. Small farming communities. Wine is getting huge. Breweries are becoming very popular as well. Historic area with Whitman Mission, Fort Walla Walla, Lewis and Clarke trail heads. Mountains, desert, rivers all within 1 hr travel. Hunting and fishing is decent. All 4 seasons experienced here as well.

A little this and that...Broke now
So did I brother....So did I!..And as a longtime resident of San Diego County I have many fond memories. But after 26 years we as a family are beyond ready to roll. For the op, sandpoint id is niiiice. Az uber 2nd amendment friendly. I got zero New Mexico experience. For all my Texas peeps I do love me the hill country between fredericksburg and Austin. In fact anything south of the mason-dixon equals good imho. I found us a little spot in north Ga that we're really happy with and we'd love to be on the path to move God willing much sooner rather than later. I don't fault those who love cali and choose to stay. It just no longer suits our needs as a family. OP good luck.

That's banjo music country.., just sayin'.

The Hiawassee area has exploded because some jackwagon ran a story about how great the area is for retirees. It's crazy, I drive through there on the way up to Tenn over the last 30-25 years and the difference is shocking.

Once Cali goes from being a state to a country it will be harder for them to immigrate out of their country. :oldglory:

Another option is to change California, and bring it back in line with America.

I agree with this, to an extent. However, many of these people are leaving because of the cost. This doesn't mean they share the same political views. A lot of Californian's have moved to Colorado. How does CO now vote? Coincidence? Florida has been inundated with NY refugees. We hated the New Yorkers when I lived in Florida. They came for the cheap houses and warm weather. More often than not, they would say "back in NEW YORK we did things this way". They really did bring some of the worst NY traits with them.

So while I agree with you to an extent, I also believe many of these people fleeing CA bring some of their beliefs with them, even if unintentionally.
