I have a 2008 tundra 4x4 with 190,000 miles on it. I was getting my tires replaced when the mechanic showed me my rack was about to fail. They said they could do it for $1300. I went to all the sites to get a idea of how much of a pain it would be to get this done. The rack cost $300 from Detroit axle. I got all the lines bolts and anything else attached removed. I can’t get it out from under the truck. I’m about to torch the old rack into small pieces. Does anybody know how to get this out. The internet says to slide it up towards the steering wheel fire wall then take the passenger side out the front. There is absolutely no room. Let me know if you have any ideas.

Have you taken out the oil filter housing assembly?

@csuviper ...Vipe had two replaced if I remember correctly. There is a post or more from a member/s who did it themselves...

Ok I don’t have a Tundra in front of me but up to 2013 it’s the same procedure it suppose to come out easy only 2 bolts holding it with the 2 lines and steering shaft but what I seen in my alldata is that in the 5.7 you have to remove the oil filter housing so it has room to come out make sure u keep the wheels straight at all times do not spin the steering wheel whit it’s disconnected from the rack you will damage the clock spring

Once you take out the oil filter housing assembly, you should have ample enough room.

I can’t believe the dealership wants to remove engines (book time).

@LOTSOFTOYS did my first at Toyota and the second I just traded in the truck. Front diff and all sterling components were pretty much removed
