My check engine light came on. Took it to Toyota and a damn squirrel had chewed on the fuel vent tube. Pictures attached. They said the entire fuel tank would need to be replaced and would cost 2k! Couldn't I just flex tape this thing or splice is someway? I feel their solution to be a tad drastic.

    Thanks in advance!imagejpeg.jpg

Dude splice in a piece of fuel safe hose, bypass that disconnect next to it, and get a pellet gun.

Just cut it off and put a hose with clamps. Those hoses are formed fitted with heat if your careful enough you can cut that top layer with a razor blade so you can save the inside tube cut across the red line and put a hose on it theirs no type of liquid or big pressure their it’s just vapors in or out of canister

Put a couple of cats around it that won't piss in it. Not many mice here. I keep it cut back so the hawks can find a good landing zone to grab em

About this time last year, pack rats chewed up the fuel injector wiring, and made a terrible mess of the Underhood wiring on my wife’s CRV. Turns out that Honda uses a soybean based wire insulation, and pack rats like to eat soybeans. Thank god for USAA insurance, they covered the $5800 bill to fix it (new wiring harness and ECU).

Sniper-Squirrel-in-the-Army--30002.jpg I've never had problems with squirrels, but the mice are a real problem here! they got into my last truck and caused massive problems when they got into my heater vents/blower motor and started reproducing. The first thing i did when i got my new Tundra was to try to seal off all the ways they could get inside. I made a truce with the squirrels, as they seem pretty unified in their resistance.

    This happened to me.
When I was at the dealership the tank was off and I got some JB Weld stuff and molded it around the hose where the holes were. I think I filled the holes with a type of resin that hardens and then the JB Weld stuff. Fixed it!

The service writer was pissed that he did not get a commission on that job.
