My 2017 just completed a 700 mile trip to our new home in Clayton North Carolina.
For the most part, it pulled like a champ. The steering and handling was great, no funky swaying either. I didn't know what to expect pulling a combined weight of around 7,500 lbs. plus my bed was full of items not higher than the bed rails.
The trip was mostly on level highway until we reached the Shenandoah National Park area and thier hilly roads.
The truck had to search for proper gearing a few times and with the heavy trailer hitched and loaded, it wanted to take me down the hills in a hurry causing the brakes to heat up a bit (we could smell them). I personally didn't think that the trailers helper brakes "helped" that much, but that's another story.
Apparently, the way the U-Haul is built, my transported Honda CRV's weight is situated pretty far forward. This unfortunately seemed to place a lot of weight on the ass end of the truck causing it to squat and flattening my leafs into an un-attractive appearance. This kinda of worried me but the suspension felt fine and bumps did not feel or sound alarming.
I must say that this shocked me a bit thinking that the Tundras read suspension would be able to handle the tongue weight better and I guess it did, but I was somewhat worried.
Seeing that I never tow, I don't know if there is a better way to distribute tongue weight other than upgrading my stock trucks rear suspension that would have made towing better and safer.
But other than that, it ran well and I averaged 16.4 mpg traveling a steady 60-65 miles per hour.
Note that I did not run in tow haul mode.
Do you think that I should have?

Why didn't you use tow/haul? That's why it searched for gears so much and didn't downshift going down hills. The uhaul brakes are for emergency cases because they're mechanical and work off a sudden momentum stop.

That's why it shifting to much tow/haul mode changes the shifting points need to use it when towing and hauling
