Just wanted to bump this back to the top for more discussion. Been saving for a bit and am starting to look more seriously.

I was looking hard at the mid 70’s f250. Boy are they hard to find in decent shape with not a crazy price. I ended up with a 95’ 150(first truck I ever had body style) holds a special place in my heart. I paid up for it but the truck will be with me for life.
I hope to build it for a beach rig so no camper but a bunch of upgrades. Looking at a midtravel kit for it after I line-x the whole thing forest green and tan two tone like it is now.

Got to love an old rig you can basically stand in the engine bay and work on it. Look forward to seeing what you get

Here ya go. I got the race line shift wheels that go from bronze to grey depending on light and angle. Love those wheels

They are pretty pricey, and I have had the same type of thought. I like the 95ish Ford body style. I think that was the last good looking truck that they made. That is a heck of a nice one you have there.

One very similar to that recently came up for sale locally. While I think it would be a pretty cool project vehicle that you could turn into a beast of a camping rig, finding parts and the upkeep would be cumbersome. Cool rig, though!

Well, I went and test drove a 1975 F250 a couple of days ago. The truck was in pretty good shape, but one thing that stood out is that I don't fit in them as easily as I remember. I must have been more willing to put up with uncomfortable positions back then. So, the only way I am going to be able to do a classic '70s Ford is if it is a extended cab - and those are pretty rare and expensive. Looks like I am going to be steered toward a '94-'02 Ram 2500 or a '92-'96 F250. Damn world is made for short people! :)

I would go for a square body gm. Easy to get parts for them and everybody has worked on a SBC. Prices are going through the roof though.

Agreed, I think they are on the upswing for the 80s to late 90s trucks.

Ok, so I was talking about this with a friend and was sort of complaining about how the long bed truck was going to have a 133" wheelbase. He piped in and said: "why dont you just skip the truck idea and get a Land Cruiser ......I bet you could build a platform to sleep inside that would be long enough"

So I started doing some research on the 80 series Cruisers. Found a build where someone made a sleep platform that was in the ball park length wise. Then I called a friend who owns a 1996 Cruiser to see if I could check it out. He said he is actually thinking of selling his. I am going to look at it tomorrow.

I am not sure I am sold on the idea, as I sort of wanted a truck with more payload capability than the Tundra. But maybe I will end up with a Cruiser and then have to go get a new heavy duty.......

Anyway, I expect everyone will love them since this is a Toyota forum, but how do you all like the FZJ80? I like the solid axle aspect for sure. Not too pumped about the six banger, though.
