FWIW. Total Tundra loyalist. Owned 2 Tundras, 2 Land Cruisers. My wife has a 2019 1794 Tundra. Just got back to Wisconsin from Pennsylvania. Drove a friends 2018 F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost towing a trailer with a 1970 Suburban on it. Probably close to 7000lbs though the mountains of Pennsylvania. I almost forgot the trailer was back there. All of this is somewhat painful to admit. Toyota needs step up. Please don’t let my next truck be a Ford

You were fortunate to make it home. I will take the resale and reliability of Tundra over Ford. I saw their commercial claiming some ridiculous tow rating. If you are towing anything close to 10 klbs then you should have a 3/4 ton at least. Towing is not just about power. I tow a 5000 lb boat and can pass at will on 2 lanes.

I won’t really EVER buy a Ford. I’m just giving due credit to the 3.5 Ecoboost. I’ve towed with 3 different Tundras. The torque in the Ecoboost was impressive. No comments on the rest of the truck.

I have towed with our 2018 King Ranch that has 8 cylinder, and my tundra. I’ll take the tundra every time. What kills the “experience”, to me, is the transmission. Granted tow mode it’s 50% better, but it’s still not pleasant.
In every other metric, I’ll pick the king ranch over the tundra, it’s much nicer in every respect.

I too just finished hauling a 6000# trailer, from Wisconsin to Oklahoma though, with a 2018 F-150 FX4 SC 3.5 EB. But saying "almost forgot it was back there" is a bit overzealous; my 2010 Tundra pulled just as well. The rattles, squeeks and hunting/pecking of the climate control that truck developed over my 18 month ownership forced me back to a Tundra this weekend; no comparison in build quality in my opinion having owned 8 Toyota trucks since 1994. To each his own and I respect that.

Its pretty crazy the ecoboost actually has more torque than the V8
I find the thing is constantly shifting, I wonder of the V6 trucks are geared different. I get so much anxiety when the F150 shifts itself behind the power curve while towing it makes me really uncomfortable. Particularly in curvy and hilly roads. The tundra doesnt do that. The tundra usually seems to be in the right gear and it's only picking from a few gears vs actively seeking between many. Tow mode does seem to lock out 9 and 10, but it still hunts too much for my liking. The King Ranch is 10x nicer in every other respect though ;)

My neighbor had a eco 3.5 and loved it. Said the same thing about towing.
I can respect different views in regards to turbos but coming from ‘14 BMW 535i (biggest POS, I sued & won) I’ll pass on turbo’s. Hence my Tundra purchase haha.

There is a dude on the Texas Fishing Forum that swears his Bmer SUV is the best tow vehicle. I think he has rocks between his ears.

I agree, always shifted behind the curve, didn't like as well. Tundra just picks a gear and goes. My Lariat 502 was nicer, read more bells n whistles (absolutely loved the parallel parking though), but Ford excepted squeeks and rattles from its warranty, and I had a bunch they refused to inspect.

I agree, the simplicity of our gear box makes it really nice. i **** on the tundra a lot, mostly cause its fun to do, but i now have a sweet spot for our transmissions after experiencing the new F150, but im drawing the line there :)

2 blown turbos , I drive system crashed (40k miles) oil pan gasket fail (40k miles) valve cover gasket failed (55k miles), ac problems /cabin always had a moldy smell, constant drivetrain malfunctions...

hummm i wonder how comparing the experience of towing with tundra vs the F150 is "off topic". a little too contentious?

There in lies the wisdom of past experiences.
I don't hate Ford. My buddy has an 18 Ecoboost Lariat trimmed F150. He enjoys it when it's running well and doesn't need computer updates or recall fixes. It is fast and pulls well.

Ford did the same thing with Powerstroke 7.3s. Shrink em and boost em. Then while your working the bugs out... NEW MODEL... Come to our showroom, see how radically different and fixed from previous gens it is.. Um wait.. Not so much.

Ford trucks are alot like supermodel cheerleaders that have mental issues and an STD. Drive em at your own peril.

My Tundra tows just fine with the tow package and supercharger. The problem with the Ford Ecoboost 3.5 is that it's attached to a Ford F-150.

Ford CAN make a quality, overbuilt, million mile pickup.... it's just not profitable enough to keep the king in his chair.
I applaud their ingenuity in filling the pickup line with toys. Much better idea than GM. They (GM) simply outsourced everything to the lowest bidder and watched their reliability plummet.
Seems practical to simply build the best widget possible and steadily improve upon it...
    Enjoy your Toyota/Lexus.. wink wink

It’s interesting some of the comments on these type of threads. Come on folks, bottom line is it’s an opinion of ones experience with ones products.

Sure not one manufacture is far from being perfect and that includes Toyota. I’ve owned, Mercedes, Lexus, Fords, Chevy, Dodge and Bmws. I can tell you they all had their issues. It just happened you were that lucky person to get a bad one. If the Manufacturers were so terrible, why do US consumers continue to buy them? I recall years ago, when Alfa Romeo was sold in the US. They started not to honor warranties and cars was so problematic that US consumers refused to buy from them. Forcing them to exit the US marketplace. They came back, but you better believe that they will take care of the clientele

Yes, I wish my Tundra, had all the bells and whistles that our competition has. But when looking at a decked out F150 for $60-70k. I cringe, only because at that kind of money I’m going to buy something luxurious. I’m glad Toyota, has kept their pricing relative affordable.
