My griot's G9 showed up today. In the box is a nice little bag with instructions, wrench, and an extra set of brushes. Also a pamphlet with some good info on pad/compound/polish combinations uses. The detachable cord is way cooler than I figured it would be. It really is a good idea and it makes storage much easier and seems to make the tool feel smaller in your hand (no comments from the peanut gallery please).
The polisher feels lighter and better balanced than the GG6 but also feels similar if that makes sense. The speed dial can be adjusted from either side of the handle which is probably going to be nice unless it leads to unwanted speed changes. I will find out tomorrow when I test it. The trigger control vs the old style on/off switch is going to take some getting used to, but it does have a trigger lock to make it easy to keep the tool running without holding the trigger down.
The 6" vented backing plate looks and feels good, but its coming off for a 5" LC plate, but the 6" will see some use from time to time depending on the project at hand.

Tomorrow I will be using it with a 5" CarPRO Rayon pad with some CarPro CeriGlass polish. That'll be my first work with this thing. I'm really excited to try it out, and will report back.
Next spring it'll get put to work polishing out my truck for a probable ceramic coating. I'll use more CarPro stuff to be used for that including clear cut compound and essence polish, I stocked up on those items during an AG sale. I'm pretty well sold on CarPro products, lake country pads, and a few other brands sprinkled in there. I'll be sticking with what works for me.

Mine came a couple of days ago but I have yet to unbox it. Plan on taking care of my father in laws black Tundra first with some Meguiars D151 and a orange Lake Country pad. He doesn't take care of his truck at all and this should get him jumping with joy when its done.

Oh man he will think its a new truck after that. I just read up on the megs D151...cool product and crazy cheap for what it says it does. Sounds like you could swap pads and get different levels of cut/polish/gloss, very versatile.
You gonna use the 6" plate that came with it?
Any plans for a last step protection layer? Wax? Sealant? I can't wait to see pics.

D151 is my go to for the folks who aren't perfectionists like us. Its great for daily drivers and for people who take their cars to the car wash. One coat really does it all. No need for a last step protection layer. This will get him through the crappy winter.

Going swap to a 5" plate most likely. I have one from another machine.

I guess now I will have to post some before and after pics.

    @Pudge pm coming your way.

Can't wait to see how it comes out. The D151 sounds pretty damn cool and useful.

From the very limited use I’ve had with mine, the trigger is really great. Having to hit the switch was always a little awkward. I also like the dial being on the sides. Both of these make it easier to change speeds and stop and start the machine without lifting it off the paint.

Does Meguiars make a smaller bottle of the D151? The one gallon jugs seem like a lot for home use. It looks like it's geared more for detail shops...

I tried out my new G9 today with some CarPro ceriglass glass polish. The G9 is a really nice tool, Griots definitely nailed it with this one, I am pretty surprised it doesn't cost more to be honest. I was unable to stall it at full speed on glass, so that shows there is a lot of power behind this thing.
As for the ceriglass, it's okay. It definitely made the windshield very clean and may have removed a few light scratches but nothing of any significance. I used carpro rayon pads which were nice to work with. I will definitely use them and the ceriglass again to clean and polish the rest of my glass. Overall I'm very happy with the G9 so far

Do you think it would be OK to wash and clay mitt, then use this with my DA, and then use Adams WW Ceramic to finish?

I think so, you may wanna give the stuff a day to "cure" before applying the Adam's, but I think your plan is okay.

Any reason you are set on that 3m AIO polish? Looking for a good polish or wax or you want an all in one? You have a DA polisher?

There is certainly nothing wrong with it, I have read great reviews on 3D stuff, especially their MF towel cleaner (3D Kleen). What are you looking to accomplish? Quick Polish just because? Swirl removal? Looking to add gloss? There are so many options out there so for my money I would want something geared towards what I'm looking to get out of it.

minor swirls. looking to get a nice coat of protection for the winter. The wife pilot is 4 years old and will be the first vehicle I do. It is white and needs a thorough detail. I figured the 3D stuff was an easy entry into detailing, and the WW Ceramic was so highly discussed that I put it on a recent order.

Ok. If not, I was going to recommend Jescar Powerlock. It looks amazing on MGM and has the best long term durability of any sealant I’ve tried.

You may want to look at The Last Cut also. It’s recommended by the guys at The Rag Company, and is supposed to be very easy to use. It works as either a compound or polish, depending on which pad you use. I actually have some that I have yet to experiment with.

A little more expensive though, and not available on Amazon.

Anyone else have any feedback on the new G9? I am in the market to upgrade from my 10 year old 7424... it has seen better days.

For a light polish, minor swirls and prep for ceramic was planning on going CarPro Essence + Cquartz3.0 (2x coat) and finish it with CarPro Gliss. Anyone gone this route? Thoughts?

Edit: ahead of polishing will prep the car appropriately (clay, iron decon etc.)

Plan sounds good to me, its actually exactly what I'd love to do to my truck, but I would need a pass with carpro clear cut before the essence.
The G9 is definitely a nice upgrade over your PC 7424. I think you'll get your money's worth out of it in saved time alone. It has quite a bit more power than the PC which equals fewer passes and time saved.

@Tmank87 Im returning my Griots G9 after one use. The cord won't stay in and keeps falling out when Im using it. What a pia it was today trying to detail my in laws Tundra.

It is most likely a rare occurrence but I just though I would mention it. Now I might go with the Maxshine M15 pro or try another G9.

Just read another guy on tacomaworld mention this, he mentioned your post too I think. I went to the garage plugged cord into the tool, heard it click in, then tried pretty hard to pull the cord out without pressing that tab in, and I could not detach the cord. I was really pulling, harder than it would get pulled other than if the cord hung up on a tire while I was walking or actually running around the truck.
You sure its clicking in? Is the little tab broken or bent? I would call Griots tomorrow. They have excellent customer service. They will make it right. I'm hoping this isn't going to be a widespread issue, it sure sucks it happened to you.
