Orb Weavers are awesome. And I don't like spiders. As a previous poster said, they are harmless. For the last couple of weeks I go out nightly and take out as many black widows as I can - we have a lot of them around our property. But, I leave the Orb Weavers and the Cellar spiders (daddy long legs) alone.

I encounter many spiders including black widow when work in well houses, they don't bother me - I don't bother them. This big guy stayed put on the wall about a foot from the equipment I was working on, it measures approximately 4 inches across. I have encountered larger specimens of this particular spider that I could hear walking across cinder block walls...

One of the cons of living in the mountains of a desert. But, we usually don't see them much until the fall.

We also have tarantulas running around in the canyons here. Those things are cool, too. I leave them alone - well, after I take some pictures. Here is one we saw a while back:

I used to see something similar to that in Okinawa although not that crazy. Oki had big ass spiders....big. The Cicadas were also freaking big and quite loud.

I'm not afraid of them. I just don't like them and wouldn't vote against spider genocide. Lol.

In Louisiana, we ride our bikes through the various Orb Weaver webs for fun. There are many varieties available.

I'm not afraid of spiders until they get larger than a quarter.. then I just keep my distance. I once watched a spider capture and eat a roach, so as far as I'm concerned, spiders are friends.

Few months ago, I had a black widow on my machine for work, I knew it was a black widow before I even saw her, cause they make a messy web, I shined my light down a section of the frame of the machine and there she was, I let her be, few work cycles go by and she was gone, but all throughout these railroads I've been on, we see lots of black widows and tarantulas
