Hey guys, I'm currently in the process of looking for my first Tundra. I've test driven a bunch of them and really am leaning towards the 2020 platinum and I just wanted to make sure I'm not getting screwed by the dealership. MSRP of the truck is $55,323.00 this includes the power moonroof, tundra black tailgate insert, brushed stainless steel running boards, and the spray in bedliner, and the delivery and processing fee. I was able to talk him into a discount of $3,370 and then another 1000 in rebates. so walking out the door with taxes, title, etc i am looking at $55,021. Does this seem like a good price to you or am I being screwed? Never worked with toyota before, but I know coming from honda that both honda and toyota are tough to talk down because they make such damn good vehicles.

I should also mention that I'm not totally opposed to getting a 2019 Platinum, but the apple carplay (as dumb as it may seem) is a big selling point for me because I've used that in my current car and love it. My boss bought a 2019 SR5 tundra and said the entune system is, in his words, a total pile of shit, I also like the push button start, but is there anything else that has really changed from 19 to 20? and the current offer of 0% for 60 months is very tempting, but in the end I wanted to be completely satisfied with my purchase and dont want to feel as though I missed out on some features I like just to save a couple thousand dollars.

Personally I preferred to have the CD player in the 2019, but I am old school.

I'm more new school lol, but I also have no problem plugging phone in to charge and using a phone mount on windshield. I'm just curious what kind of prices people are getting out the door for 2020 platinums.

Welcome from NC! Sounds like a good deal. Not a great deal but a good deal. You are absolutely correct, Toyota does not come off much from sticker. Get them to throw some add ins when you purchase like maybe a tonneau cover or leveling kit or tint and clear cover protection.

Welcome. Hopefully someone chimes in soon. Quick search on 2020 platinum and a few threads on the topic popped up:

I’m actually planning on going to a ceramic pro installer and getting the partial front wrapped which covers half the hood, full front end and mirrors and then getting the ceramic coating on the entire vehicle. Out the door for $2200 with a lifetime warranty.

They don’t have 0% financing for 2020 models. Only 2019. And I can almost guarantee no one is getting 11% off of MSRP on 2020 models. They are giving me about $3800 off of MSRP plus they have a $1000 rebate going on so in total I’m getting about $5000 off.

Also I can’t tell you how excited I am to be joining the tundra community. My boss won’t be able to make fun of me anymore for taking my fishing kayak out on my roof rack on my civic. Everytime we go he says “ alright I’ll see you in 30 minutes once you get your kayak off your car” lol

also this kinda came out of no where because I was in an accident on Friday and my civic got totaled. So I only have about 8k to put for a down payment.

Hate to break the news, but if you're into decent sound, the whole audio system will likely have to be yanked out and tossed, be it a 2019 or 2020, particularly the head unit. JBL or not they both suck. They have the sound quality equivalent of an 80's sedan. So IMHO don't let that be the ultimate deciding factor. There are some Youtube videos about a dude that got a hefty discount on his Tundra and goes into details of how he went about doing so, mostly through emails. I personally got close to 5K off mine in 2018. Don't know how the Tundra market is right now, but with a slowing economy and the redesign inching closer you should be able to do quite well.

I mean I used to be heavily into audio systems, I was fine with what came with my 2016 civic Ex-Turbo. I cranked up some shade 45 in the platinum and it didn't sound terrible, but definitely sounded better than the TRD sport I drove. It'll do the job. I'm getting about 5k off right now, i'll check that video out. I've checked all around and it doesn't seem like anyone is getting much off the newer models, and the dealers aren't gonna give a bigger discount because of the 2021. Most of the dealers in my area only have 4-6 2020 tundras in stock and most of those are SR5's. I've seen a handful of platinums and about the same number of TRD pros, i'm in NE ohio for reference.

Also I've seen some of the SR5's with all of the packages and stuff added on with sticker prices of 50k, so if i have to choose between that and 5k more for a platinum, i'm choosing the platinum all day. The seats alone are a big difference maker in terms of quality and comfort.

You might be smart to buy a nice used Tundra to drive for awhile. You never know, you might drive it for ten years. Reasons for this suggestion given your present lack of permanent transportation:

    (1) Some posts here about "safety delay" causing 2020s to be delayed in shipment. Search the topic. That may be the reason dealer selection is poor. These new safety sense systems are causing some owners grief; a little more time will help them work out the bugs.

    (2) Rumors of a totally new redesign in maybe 2022. If you trade vehicles as soon as they're paid off or sooner, this is less of an issue. If you find you don't like the redesigned version, or you don't want to pay the temporarily high intro prices, buy the previous model. But, there is a risk: Toward the end of every model year, dealers quit ordering high option trucks, and start tapering their stock down to bread and butter, low option, generic white trucks.

Search for the truck equipped as you want it on CarGurus.com. The website will show you dealer listings with trucks equipped as you want. Pick a listing, and confirm it is equipped as you want. This doesn't mean you have to buy from that dealer, they can be 1000 miles away. The listing will show a colored graph of prices paid for that exact truck nationwide with Fair, Good, Great prices marked on the scale.

Welcome from the Texas Hill Country.

Pick a vehicle make an offer say about about $8k off or what you feel like you want to pay and walk out. Do this 1 week from the end of the month. You will probably get a call on the 29th or so. They don't like inventory to sit more than 30 days. TRDs aren't as negotiable but I bet you may get a better deal than you think if you don't get in a hurry with Platinum cause they have much more frills on them.
