I am looking at purchasing some Winter tires for my Audi A3 TDI. I am looking at Nokian hakkapelittia which I hear are worth every penny, vs Bridgestone Blizzaks. Blizzaks are almost half the price but I will be traveling up and over Teton Pass. I want a bullet proof snow tire. Anyone have 1st hand experience with hakkapelittia's?

I've owned both on passenger cars. I was not impressed with the Blizzack's grip or wear, so I've not gone back after that set. About 10 years ago I got into Nokian Hakkas, studded, and I've never looked back at anything else. I'm pretty sure they defy the laws of physics.

I'm about 30min from the Canadian border in Vermont. I'll be trying their Hakkapeliitta LT2 model on my new 2019 Tundra as they are significantly cheaper than the Hakka 9s.

I run blizzaks on my daily driver, camry in which i commute an hour each way through Michigan winters. Theyve been great for me, Im on my second set but Ive heard the Nokians are very good.

I've owned both (non studded) and at the same time on 2 different vehicles. The Blizzaks are better on ice because they are a softer compound and have more siping. The drawback is that they are not good on dry pavement and they tend to have a mushy ride. The Hakka's I had were the R for SUVs, non-studded. They weren't as good on ice, but had a much better ride on dry pavement and did not dull the steering response like the Blizzaks did. Both did well in deep snow, I honestly couldn't tell the difference. I think the Blizzaks wear a little faster, again because of the softer compound.

I had and still run the Blizzaks on the Tundra. The Nokians were on a 2014 Durango AWD which I no longer own. I run a set of Hankooks (non-studded) on my new Armada. They are not as good as the two you are deciding between. I have never run a studded tire so I cannot comment on them. I'm sure they give you superior ice traction, but the noise and ride comfort trade-off always shied me away from them.

I don't think you could go wrong with either.

Damn, that what I thought. I sent a Tire Rack a message on what they suggest for their inventory. Thought I would see what they have to say. I do like the fact I can get a tire and wheel combo Tire Rack. I think it would be nice just to swap mounted wheels instead of tires every season. When the weather gets really gnarly I will take the Tundra. Tundra a snow machine.

    I have had both.

The Hakkapelittas were on a Mini Cooper and they worked so well in deep snow and on ice . I never got stuck and always felt in control.

The blizzaks were on a BMW 335 and maybe because of the high horsepower it did feel a little squirrelly when I was on the gas a little. That being said I was never left stranded and they did feel stable on the icy roads.

I would go with the Hakkapelittas again without hesitation.

Tirerack always seems to push blizzaks for whatever reason. Im happy with them and they give me more than enough traction even for a fwd car through Michigan winters. I run a dedicated set for winter and have another set for the rest of the year, def the way to go.

My gut is telling me to get Hakkapeliitta. I think they have a slight edge over blizzaks.

Hakkas all the way...best tire for Audis (or my Audis: D2 S8 & Coupe Quattro/S2 Clone) and even trucks...even better when there are studs in them! Once you try them, you'll be telling everyone to do the same!

I have studded Hakkas on my Tundra and The Woman's Corolla S. We love them. They perform beautifully in our extreme winters.

Nokian tires go on sale next week (Oct 6-12), but sale requires install before Oct 31.

I just ordered a set of Hakka 9 studded instead of the LT2 as I don't need the stiff 10ply equivalent for weight or towing, and the price difference was only $4/tire (initial checking said it was much higher for H9s). Total price with mount and balance will be about $1,100.

Think I need studded? Feel like non studded will be fine. TDI motor is heavy and should allow for good traction. But I am all ears.

Traction on ice with the studded Hakka’s is amazing! But if you don’t see much ice in your area then you won’t benefit from them. The studded versions are very noisy for the first 2000km. My first choice would be Nokian, second Blizzak. I couldn’t afford either last year so I went with TBC Arctic claws. Not as good but way better than the stock tires. I also bought new rims and tires in the spring, so the winter tires will stay mounted on the stock wheels. Much less hassle with a rotate on instead of mount/balance twice a year.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 SUV in 275/65R18.

Just got them installed last week. You won't win any sexy contests, but I'll take them on ICE over anything out there.

I've had both (on two different vehicles) and the Nokians are by far the best snow tire out there.

Nice looks good! I put on my Hakka 8 on last week. I went studless and will see how they fair. We get more snow pack floor than pure ice. Hakkia's drive soft but they are a soft rubber compound. Stoked to see how well they do when in nuking out.
