    Howdy!

I'm new to the forum and somewhat new to the Tundra. I recently sold a 2000 Tundra that I had owned for nearly six years. It was a third vehicle that was used mainly for dump runs and the like. I'm now in the market for a late model Tundra and have an eye on an '18 CM that would be my new daily driver. As this would be my second Tundra, I chose the username TundraFan2

I'm not really a fanboi per se, but after exhaustive research on platforms, options, my needs, my wants, etc., the answer was Tundra. F-150 came fairly close, but I really didn't want a Ford motor, and I certainly didn't want one with a turbocharger; just something else to go wrong in it. Their V8 Coyote engine was as close as I ever got with that platform, but the excessive oil consumption ended up killing it for me. I'm fine with the "dated" platform of the Tundra and the crappy gas mileage. I'm after a reliable truck from a reliable manufacturer that will do everything I need, and almost all of what I want.

I wish there were better storage options for the CM. I'm familiar with the ESP options and don't think it's worth the money for the relative small gain in space, and I loved the ingenuity behind the steam pan solution posted elsewhere on this forum. I will likely settle for a milk crate or similar solution secured to the front seat anchors for anything that can't be stored under/behind the rear seat. It's not ideal, but it will work for me.

Anyway, that's a wrap on my introduction. Hoping to learn a lot in my time here and hopefully share some knowledge and experience with others.

    Welcome from CO.

Storage space from ESP is not that much, but it's something. It does hold a bunch of gear for me for emergency purposes. So it did have some value for me but I can see where it doesn't work for everyone.

Welcome, and smart choice if reliability is the primary concern. That was the tipping point for me as well, and no one can argue that the Tundra isn't a reliable platform.

    Well, I did it.

Last week I picked up an '18 SR5 CM with the Upgrade package. I really wanted the softer rear suspension, so I settled for the 4.6L motor. Voodoo Blue in color, I believe. It had just under 21K on the clock at purchase. I'm quite happy with my mileage so far, getting at least 14.8 in combined driving, and 18+ on occasion, as long as I do my part with the accelerator. If my foot gets heavy, that drops as low as 11.9. Yikes.

It's thirsty, but I'm fine with it. I would have liked to get the 38 gallon tank, but that's only available with the 5.7. Obviously, it wasn't a deal breaker. My previous daily driver was a 2005 Corolla LE that I bought brand new, so all of the interior bells and whistles are quite surprising and somewhat overwhelming. I'm sure I'll get used to them in time, and miss them like hell if I have to do without them after becoming accustomed to them.

    Happy driving, folks.
