i usually do Cheveron Premium but I just filled my tank up with the Shell V-power and I can tell a HUGE difference. This pulls like a monster!!! Can't praise it enough! I have a 2015 CM sr5. Anybody else experience this??!!

There's absolutely no difference putting in premium vs regular octane. unless you are force inducted.

Sounds like the butt dyno at work to me. Any improvement in MPG? The only thing I put premium in is my V175 Mercury OB. Running milled heads at 140 pounds.

IMO you see a bigger difference using 87 ethanol free. V Power is just a silly marketing term.

It's a tough pill to swallow though. 87 is $2.05 while 91 is $2.85. That is $24 MORE for 30 gallons.

Ecu is tuned for regular octane. Higher octane will burn cooler, however our engine will not compensate for it. It doesnt have a "performance" tune.

Dyno will prove there is zero improvement.

There is so much misinformation from the bench.

Not doubting what you believe, but believe this fill up with a tank of regular and check your highway gas mileage compared to a fill-up of premium and you will note that the premium fill-up has a vastly higher MPG than the regular.

They both get the same 15.0mpg calculated (with fuelly) on 87, 89 or 91 on 31 gallons of fill up. All the same 46 miles round trip commute.

My 2006 R6 (about 160 miles) and 2015 R1 got the same miles per tank fill up when I had either 91 unleaded or 110 VP Racing.

Has anyone tried ethanol free gasoline? I am thinking of giving it a try.

I tried it. Didn't make a big enough difference to definitively say the mileage was any better and definitely not enough difference to justify the higher cost. I average around 17 MPG mixed city/hwy on E10, and calculated 17.2 MPG on one tankful of E0. Would have had to get over 21 MPG on E0 to match the cost of E10. Had I gotten even 18-19 MPG, I would have tried another tankful or two. But I always use non-ethanol in my outboard motor.

I thought there would be a bigger difference in MPG's. Ethanol free gas has a higher BTU content then E-10. I thought blended gasoline wasn't allowed to be used in boats?

I thought so, too. Theoretically, it should get better mileage. That's why I tried it. It's possible that the problem with the E0 that I tried was that it is 86 octane instead of 87. Possibly caused a slight ping that caused the computer to run the ignition a little retarded as compared with the 87 octane E10. But the E0 is not easy to come by. The only E0 source in my town is that 86 octane stuff. I could drive 50 miles to get 87 octane E0, at the place where I fill my boat on the way to the coast, but of course that would negate any MPG advantage. All the outboard manufacturers okay E10 for their motors. But I don't want E10 in my 60 gallon tank. Too big a chance for water absorption in a tank open-vented to atmosphere.

What I really want is for the gov't to stay the hell out of it, and stop mandating the use of corn juice in my vehicles. Instead, they push the E15 crap, with fraudulent motives.

86 octane could be the culprit. I thought Toyota wanted no less then 87 octane in the tundra? Place near me sells E0 and I believe it is 87 octane. When I fill up, I am gonna try it and see if the mpg's go up. If I don't see a huge difference, I'll stick to top tier gas. Didn't the EPA want 20 percent ethanol a few years ago but the auto makers pushed back on it?

Unless we all have the same set-up, same truck, same drive, and same lead foot.... it's impossible to bounce numbers off one another and say who is right or who is wrong. If 91 works for you, then by-god use it... if you thinks its a marketing scheme and for the birds, continue to use 87. Some of us drive like Earnhardt and Gordon while some of us drive the Blanch from the Golden Girls. Me personally I feel like I drive uphill both ways and my miles per gallon reflects it because I drive with a purpose and I am always cutting my commute close with time. IMO.
