Just recently purchased my Tundra from the St. Louis area. I was surprised on the amount of rust on the frame and hardware. It doesn't seem to bad just surface, but want to get a handle on it before this winter, I've heard that Ospho is a good product to treat and POR-15 to seal the area. Any other recommendations for the rust under my truck on the frame?

I would add one step after painting... Spray everything with fluid film(or similar) to protect it

Definitely do the best you can to remove any rust, then use a rust converter primer.
Idk if things have changed but I always liked POR15 and recommended it, but a few recent reviews have left a lot to be desired. So definitely do your research there.

Rust master from kimball midwest is what I’ve used. It’s a converter similar to por15. Works great and looks great

I never had any luck with por15. You need to use a couple of their products before painting, including a neutralizer if i remember correctly. after a few years, it started bubbling and flaking off. On a side note, read the directions very carefully which i obviously didn't, and make sure that you have every inch of your skin covered. I got under my old truck with a gallon and a paintbrush and got covered in it. There is no product on earth (besides the one por15 sells) that will remove the paint from your skin. It took a full two weeks for the paint to wear off my skin...The best part was that i had a family wedding a few days after my paint job, the wife was less than pleased. :angrygirl:

    Ospho is a rust converter:

POR-15 (POR=PaintOverRust) is a top coating that can be applied over light rust, and cures to an extremely hard finish. I had excellent results with it 15 years ago, but I can't offer any recent experience if the formulation has changed. The only issue for exterior or chassis applications is that POR-15 wasn't UV resistant.
