Not very scientific but me and my buddy with a DAP tune raced from a red light and we were dead even. Did it again on the next light and same result. I’m going to say no increase in speed. :notsure:

No, we were both on 35s. Him DAP, me stock tune. But he’s a Crewmax so a little fatter and uglier. :D

Shark fin is nice. Looks so much cleaner and won’t snag on bushes. But it’s going to be really close whether I get my truck in the garage once I’m lifted again. Looks like it’s adding about 2.5-3”.

You might just have to get a new garage to go with that truck! And you already squeezed the 35s in there? Or is that the old truck with the stupid antenna? LMFAO

Interesting, so even with Bully Dogs claim of 14hp/20ft tq , still won’t pull away from stock.

I wonder if the tunes sacrifice low end power for mid to high to get the better statistic but no real real world benefit.

There's lots of threads of BullyDog doing nothing with back to back drag strip passes, even some with claims of the BD pulling timing and stuff and losing speed. Based on everything I've read and continue to read about BD, it would be the very last tune I would try.

It still gives improved throttle response and shifting. Also has some other stuff you can do.

I had a supercharger on my Tacoma.
Perhaps down the line 5 years from now, maybe.
Loved it on my Tacoma, but drawbacks were the premium fuel and insurance costs (no one thinks of this).

I had an insurance company drop me when I added the super charger, not sure if I want to deal with it. Plus resale of the supercharger is next to none (found out the hard way on the Tacoma).

if I do go the SC I will keep all the stock parts to swap back...

14hp in real life is nothing. A tail wind will do more for you.

I think trap speed at 1/4 drag is better indication than 0-60 times. With the tune, you still continue using regular fuel?

Premium fuel makes a difference in the stock 5.7. The engine pulls timing advance running 87 octane. Not a huge difference but there is a difference.

As far as drag racing goes, it really depends on the driver. Most advantage is gain at the start. HP will not overcome a bad driver. Unless it is substantial increase.

My question has been for some time is......

Can you really get 550 HP with a supercharger and a BD tune? I've seen Dirty Deeds say 90HP increase with SC and I believe him. 170 HP?..... Its hard for me to believe.

A substantial increase in power will just make a bad driver look bad quicker.

Am starting to think this also. I was getting 18 mpg on stock wheels and tires my trip to cali gave me 13 mpg. The owner at dap told me to reset my ecu by disconnecting my battery. Now my a/c controls is frozen for one minute on auto with no function. Makes me kinda regret doing the dap tune

Yeah If anything I was thinking bully dog.

it seems as though 381 at the crank is the most Toyota could push out if the engine without changing more intervals.

I know the Pushrod engines respond well to cams but it doesn’t appear the DOHC engines do so.

little disappointing there’s not an extra 20-30hp left on the table through exhaust (and headers seem to be debatable) but at the same time it’s not like the engine is lacking power.

Maybe OV will have a different result/experience? I know they had great luck with the 3rd Gen Taco

From what I have seen dc’s are normally quicker than a cm, not by much but Normally they are. So if y’all were dead even that’s good for the cm.
