So with the lawsuit settled, only 2007 and 2008 received replacement coverage.

Was there a change made for the 2009 year? Any improvements in 2011, 2013 or with the 3rd Gen? Coating Changes? Steal changes? I know the design has remained the same.

Tacoma's are recalled up to 2010. I know part of the problem there was a lack of coating but also the usage of very soft steal. The rails just turn to dust rather then having focused rust spots. This makes a patch repair almost impossible as the whole rail slowly turns to flakes and powder.

I don't think they made any changes or improvements to the frames in either truck. They do offer a frame coating of some kind but it is complete junk from what I understand. It seems to be cheaper and easier for Toyota to repair, buy back, or replace frames than it is to redesign or upgrade something in the manufacturing process. It's a shame they continue to knowingly put out a sub par frame to save some cash at the cost of inconveniencing and frustrating the consumers.
I decided to take matters into my own hands when I bought this truck and treat my frame, undercarriage, suspension, and underbody with fluid film every year. Many other have done the same but with other coatings such as Amsoil HD metal protector

Toyota doesn't make the frames. Dana corp makes them for Toyota. Whether or not they changed the process I don't know (heard that it was a lack of enough phosphorus coating used). Lots of 2007s around here that didn't get a new frame, just the undercoating. On some you could see the scale under the undercoating while others looked fine. Not many of the other brands do much better. They might last a little longer because the steel is thicker but it's rare to see a 15 year old truck on the road of any brand.

Dana makes the rails to Toyota's design spec. No one makes much of anything in house these days.

Yes, the spray CRC is garbage, if anything it accelerates the deterioration by trapping moisture and salt.

Yeah, my thought is get a Texas truck, pull the bed, POR 15, Inner Seal and top coat. Spray down inside and out with oil.

On thing I liked on my W463 was the frame was filled with wax from the factory. Shame MB's waterborne paint still sucks and the body's rust pretty fierce. (Sunroof drainage, hinges, molding).

Really wish an OEM would offer Galvanized rails, or even aftermarket. LRD rails are $4,500 from the factory Galvanized.
