A question for all Canadian Tundra owners, but specifically for those in Ontario (where salt is used in excess) did you get your trucks undercoated?

Normally I suggest this for most vehicle owners, but I am hesitant to have holes drilled in my brand new truck.

    Opinions welcome!!!

I'm not in Canada but they love that steel eating liquid chemical crap around here.
I also use Fluid Film but I'm considering having it professionally sprayed with something more permanent.

I've used Krown on previous vehicles, I was curious too see how many people have had their trucks done.

Aside from the drilling I think it's probably a good idea, looks like a real winter ahead !

How much prep is involved to do this? Doesn't look like a fun project although I can see the benefits.

It may not be a true joy but 5 years from now when your vehicle is rust free while everyone else's is full of holes you will feel real good.

I'm stationed in the high desert but I still douched mine. I'm a huge stickler for preventative maintenance and cleanliness on my vehicles.

Y'all have pics of the prep? What did you cover so it wouldn't get sprayed, etc.? Would be cool to see what it took.

I just looked the web site for fluid film. Did I read it right you have to reapply it once or twice a year?
For those that have used it. Is it like a thick WD-40?

I do it every fall. I wear a Tyvek suit, goggles, and a respirator. Yes, I look like I'm headed to the moon but I don't get it all over me or smell it.

Nothing like WD-40. WD-40 is actually a degreaser, not a lubricant. Fluid film is a lanolin based lubricant. It's thicker than WD-40 and dries leaving a bit of a dull "film". Dust and small debris sticks to it, but if you spray it in the fall, come spring time the film is still there. Water and stuff seems to bead off it.

I used 2 cans of Fluid Film and did it myself. Stayed away from sensitive areas like wire connections.

I ordered the spray gun kit, and a gallon of fluid film. Used entire gallon. Plan on doing every spring and fall. I think it was time well spent since I was able to get aquanted with underside. Hoping it helps me identify any problem areas that need attention. I think Krown, fluid film, or nhoil are prob the best solution. Personally I think drilling holes is minor compared to the alternative. Taking off the fender liners was the most time consuming part. I only used ramps and safety glasses. I also keep a couple spray cans around to do touch ups as needed.

Besides being clean and dry, I did not do any prep. I got a little overspray on exhaust but it burns off quick enough. The only thing I avoided was brakes. It builds up over applications. The oil saturates everything, so I doubt that a little dirt would affect it. Some guys even drive down a gravel road to coat the oil in dust.

Krown works. I get Rustop which originally came from Canada. It's a little thicker than Krown. No rust on a guys impala that was 18 yrs old. Driven in the Buffalo salt rust belt all those years. Supposed to be applied every year. Every 2-3 years is adequate.
