Was wondering what type of trout do you all think these are? One has white meat the other have pink. Cuthroat, rainbow or brookie? Caught in Rollinsville Colo

I was trying really hard to be a mature adult on this one. :anonymous:. Funny thing is my father in law told me that about the trout color when we were camping last. I had to wait for him to say the " that's what she said." So that it wouldn't be awkward :eek2::cheers::rofl:

Brookies. The white margin on the anal fin (snicker) is the identifying mark.

Everything kills you or gives you cancer. Just ask California. ;) Also, that article states that a properly trained chef can spot the parasites. Just gotta be choosey on sushi joints I guess.

We all take calculated risks. Some smoke, or drink, or skydive, or drive without a seatbelt, etc. I'm ok risking it for the yumminess of sushi, but i totally understand how some people just can't do it.

South Boulder Creek near Rollinsville is full of Brook trout. I find that all trout is quite tasty.

Yes, they are brook trout. Actually a char, not a trout. Hope they tasted good!

The family owns some land up there with its own lake that hasn't been stocked in over 30 years. If your familiar with the area it's few miles west of the town. I think they are brook because of the color of the flesh but not sure.

I’ll tell you what they are if you let me go catch a few ;) Brook trout for sure. Which aren’t actually trout, rather a char. Same goes for lake trout.

Light colored spots on dark flesh = char
Dark spots on light flesh = trout

Those are Brook trout which are actually char as others have mentioned.

One thing I found in all the years of fishing is that hatchery fish freshly released in streams or lakes, almost always had white flesh and after they had been eating natural foods in the streams or lakes for awhile their flesh would turn pink. This is why I quit saving smaller pan size fish, they just didn't have the flavor of the larger, older fish.

Didnt know brookies are not part of the trout family, these guys are delicious. They smell like fish but taste like chicken:) Even though the lake is posted private we welcome all as long as they clean up after themselves.
Saw these two up there last time I went.20191019_144152#1.jpg

I remember, when we were living in Colorado, that a 15 yr. old girl caught a 25 pound Splake out of a lake up on Grand Mesa, ice fishing. My wife and I fished that lake the following year during the summer months and as I was rowing I saw my wife watching something intently and when I asked her what was going on she said that a small fish was leaping all over the water trying to escape something, when I looked at where she had been watching, I saw about 5 pounds of fish rolling above the water as it went after the small fish, I cast my lure in its area but to no avail. We caught a lot of fish out of that lake but none that were very big.
