Has anyone ever removed windshield scratches before? Wanted to get some input before I start spending money. I was thinking the Griot's 6" glass pads along with Griot's glass clay. Now I'm not sure about the polish to use to get deep scratches out. I saw the Griot's polish works great for water spots, not sure about scratches. The whole process kinda scary, hoping people have some prior experience.

Deep scratches on flat glass is practically impossible to remove by polishing.

From what I gather, you can polish out minor scratches and damage, but it's nothing like paintwork or clear coat. Deep scratch removal doesn't sound promising at all.
If you can wait a couple weeks I can let you know how it goes. I will wash, clay and polish. I bought some carpro ceriglass polish and rayon pads to use with my new G9, it won't ship from autogeek for another week or so though. My glass isn't too bad so I think I will be able to clean it up a bit.
What is really weird about my windshield is that there are a TON of scratches on the inside of the glass. I mean a lot of pretty deep scratches, to me it looks like someone cleaned the windshield while wearing a diamond ring, just a bunch of long continuous and circular scratches. I can't imagine what else would have caused them, I need to research if I can try to polish the inside of my windshield or not. I have secretly been hoping for a nice rock smack to my windshield so I can get a new one.
    Here is a good read...

I'd always heard to use Bon Ami powder to polish a windshield. Tried it once, years ago, to no good results.

Definitely interested to see how it goes. I'll wait to see your results, if it doesn't go well, might have to put in a call to insurance and "receive" a few rock chips

I don't have any deep scratches on the outside so I think I'll be happy with the results. The inside scratches are starting to drive me crazy, so I maybe getting some rock chips soon too. I wanted the ceriglass polish anyway to be able to offer it as part of a detail job to people, if I ever get a paying customer that is.
As soon as I get to use the stuff I will let you know. It'll be my first use of my new G9 so I am excited

What’s wrong with it that you feel the need to polish it?

Edit: I just read the thread
In my experience there is not much that can be done with scratches in glass. I have seen some glass guys try, but they have some special stuff. Almost like metal polishing equipment.

I tried Eastwood's rhodite glass polishing compound once. Found it to be a perfect waste of time and energy. Quickest, easiest way to a scratch-free windshield is a new windshield. This from the perspective of classic car restoration where original dated glass is very important.

Even if you were able to find a method to polish scratches out of your windshield, the possibility of distortion in the polished area is high due to variation in glass thickness.

I used cerium oxide (powder mixed with water) on my new to me 2003 Camry with good results. If you can feel scratches with your fingernail it won't work well. I had minor scratches from windshield wipers that distorted lights on signs and other cars, etc. It was annoying. Used the mix with a buffer and a foam pad. It made a significant difference and I'm happy with the results. It is a slow process and labor intensive though. Probably spent about 2 hours total on it.

It's been my understanding when working with glass if the scratches are to deep they need to be filled then polished. It's the same principle as a filling in a rock chip or crack in your wind shield. If your running your finger nail across the scratch and your nail gets stuck in the crevice of the scratch. It's too deep and needs to be filled before the metal polishing compounds. I would advise you to take it slow, you run the risk of causing more damage then good. Windshields are not something that is a strong point for me, I tried this on one of my older work trucks, so the repair was somewhat decent. If i were to do it again, I would probably get in a repair glass guy to take care of it. Just my $.02

I use those same Griot's glass pads on my PC7424xp with Duragloss #755. Took every water spot off every window from my wife's used RAV4. Results were freaking amazing. That thing was awful. For my windshields, I claybar them and then run this same combo, usually once a year. Makes the windshield incredibly smooth. Really enhances the wipers effectiveness too. Unfortunately it doesn't take out deep scratches. Honestly nothing will do that.

I don't know of a reason you couldn't.....why are you considering it? The interior of a windshield is tough enough to clean without the added complication of a DA

I know it would be nearly impossible and idk if I would actually try it. I have a ton of weird scratches inside my windshield is what got me thinking.
