Does anyone know if there has been a recall on the lower control arms? On a 2008 tundra

Tires are in great shape, not even a year old, and going down the freeway at 70 or 80 rides very smooth soon as I apply the brakes shaking starts

Right! These came from AutoZone, and they were midgrade Bosch, with brand-new Dura last gold brakes top-of-the-line

yep, had the same happen on my truck not too long after I bought it. Only shaking when braking. Rotors and pads took care of it.

On my previous 2015 Tundra I replaced all four rotors with Auto Zones mid grade rotors and brakes. I had the exact same issue! So I went back to auto zone and they replaced all the rotors and I upgraded to the gold series rotors and it fixed the problem.

First set of rotors I installed. (They had problems at higher braking speeds.)

Replaced them with the Durolast rotors and had no issues after that. IMG_1725.jpg

Ok, so if I left my will and tug and wiggle the rim and don't feel anything it's not the lower control arm bushing's? More likely the rotors off A millimeter or two out of run out!

If your truck drove fine before you replaced your rotors and its only happening when you brake then it's probably your replacement rotors.

Ok, I understand all this, but for the past six months my truck has been shimming, and shaking only when I apply the brakes and high-speed! So I automatically thought it was my front rotors because they looked A little worn down ! So I replaced them, and it still is doing the same thing, that's why am wondering if it is the lower control arm bushing's? But under 50 it stops great it's speeds above 50 to 80 where my shaking occurs when I hit my brakes

No, I did not have time to replace an exchange the rotors, I'm going to have a guy look at my lower control arms and bushings to see if that is the situation, I'm having a hard time thinking that it's the new rotors because it rides really well and even at 90 miles an hour I have no issues until I kick the brakes on

You can also look at toyota.com/recall. You just need your VIN number

From what your saying is happening, I would say it's your rotors. As I was saying in my earlier post I bought a brand new set of rotors from auto zone and had the same problem as you. If it was your lower Control Arms then the vibration would be happening without brakes IMPO.

Ok, that's good to know on the lower control arms, I guess it's only three hours of my time to change out these rotors, again! I guess it's good practice! For future Nascar training! Lol

on my new tundra, there was a high speed vibration under braking - I could have sworn it was a rotor issue.... took it back to the dealer and they did an alignment... that fixed it.

If you have a dial gauge, take a wheel off and check the run out on the rotors, both sides and if you're being super detailed, check three points, inside, middle, outside in case you have a weird manufacturing fault.

Ok, it just puzzles me to do 80 miles an hour straight with no issues vibrations or shakes, and soon as I apply the brakes my steering will shakes not sure why a fun end alignment would have any affect on that because you would feel it without hitting my brakes

try rotating the tires and see what that does, I know you said it runs smooth but its easier than the brake job and doesn't cost anything it just may be a tire out of balance worth a shot

I was going to say rear rotors until you said the steering wheel shakes - does it shimmy side-to-side, or you just feel the shake up through the steering column?

If I'm understanding correctly, you only replaced the front rotors and pads, correct?

Did you make sure the hub face was clean or any rust scale and dirt, and torque the wheel nuts with a torque wrench?

Hub face is clean! No rust! No Turque wrench, but it's tight, my steering wheels when I apply the brakes side to side , yes I just replace the front rotors and brakes

Roughly 80% of the Autozone rotors I have installed are not true straight out of the box. They are so bad I turn them before installing now without question. I can almost guarantee your rotors need turned. I do a couple sets of Autozone rotors a month and they almost always come back with vibrations soon after unless I turn them prior to installing.

how are your steering rack bushings? Are they the originals? If the bushings are worn they will allow a lot of play during braking and allow for vibration. That said, I have had brand new rotors shimmy too, had to have them turned to correct.
