    Hey all.

Just bought a Tacoma, 2019 Off-road a couple of months ago. Not loving it.

Out of curiosity stopped by dealer to see about trading in on Tundra. As of now they are offering $8k discount on 2019.

So because I’ve only had the Taco a couple of months I’m a little upside down. The discount takes care of it but the interest rate is a little higher so the new Tundra would cost me an extra $25/payment.

Do I go for it or wait until this time next year when the redesigned Tundras will be coming out, they’ll be offloading the 2020s and I will no longer be upside down?

Taco is fine but not all what people rave about, I really dislike the engine/transmission plus it’s tight. Stupid resale on them now. One dealer offered me what I paid but on a 3/4 diesel, little overkill....

I would get the tundra asap depending on your situation.

I had 4 tacomas in a row. loved them all

Now I have 2 kids and a big dog.

Tundra all the way. Tons of power on the highway.Way more room.

    Never looked back.

Tundra has a spacious interior, is more fun to drive, and is a lot more powerful. It's also big to park. Tacoma can squeeze in tight spots, like in parking garages.

Some research before you purchased would've saved you. Everyone complains about the engine and trans. I would get the Tundra now and be happy. Driving the Tacoma will just piss you off everyday.

If you can afford the difference, go for the change. Like @nowayout stated, research is key. Vehicles are a majority of peoples' biggest or second biggest expense. Why would you go in blind? The question now is does your lifestyle justify the change. Heck, does your lifestyle even warrant a truck? Or is it just a status symbol for you? Just wanted to throw out some food for thought.

I trade my 13 tacoma for my 19 tundra. If you got a good deal now go for it. Next year model don't change much, just keyless entry, push button start, and the DC TRD PRO.
After I drove my tundra for a few weeks, I drove my friend tacoma. Hit my head when I get it, driving with my leg straight, cause the seat is so low to the floor. I could never fine a good position to sit in.

    Go for the Tundra.

Negotiate a month to sell the Taco private party (good chance you’ll get more than the dealer’s trade in offer OR that the dealer will up their offer to get it done immediately).

I’m assuming the offered 8k discount is based on using the dealer’s financing, so start with that; but after your 3rd payment (so the sales rep and dealer don’t get charge backs on their commission), refinance for a lower rate through your own credit union or other competitive financer.

Yeah. I haven’t read too many reviews by people satisfied with the redesigned trans/ engine package. Previous generation is worth holding onto, but not this one.

    Thanks all

Don’t get me wrong it’s a nice little truck, little is the word though

I actually came from a Sprinter van which other than being a Mercedes and only a 5000lb tow rating was an amazing vehicle

Yes I did my research knowing about the engine/transmission. It’s really not too bad but after a diesel it’s annoying. I’m sure I’d get used to it.

Will definitely be towing in the near future, this was an unforeseen event when I got the Taco otherwise I’d be driving the Tundra already

At this point I’m trying to decide trading now or just waiting the year. Getting late on in the summer so probably no trailer until next year unless of course I come across an amazing deal for one

    Thanks again

    Depending on your needs...

I kept both of my first gen Tacomas and sold my 2nd gen for the Tundra. The power, bed space, interior space/comfort, towing capacity, quality and similar fuel mileage (believe it or not) were enough to make me jump ship.

Go test drive one if you are serious, but only if you are serious, because you will fall in love.

:)Page one of the Tundra rule book states that you have to own a Tundra to be on this forum. The rules are the rules and we are not allowed to break the rules. If you own a Tacoma you will be well liked on this page but not loved. See PG 3 paragraph 2 subsection 5. Now if you don’t own a Tundra but are thinking about getting one you are allowed to buy a permit to be on this fourm for a period of not greater than 30 days. See Page 9 paragraph 12.:)

it really depends on your needs, for a family even with one child like mine I got rid of my 2011 taco which was a little better than the new ones transmission wise. Tundra has so much more room and power, taco is really for an offroader

I had a tacoma for a little over a year. I bought a Tundra because my wife and her sister bought a 32 foot camper. It's definitely nicer and the power is great. The tacoma hunted gears in the mountains. With all that said, the tacoma wasn't the nightmare for me as it it seems for everyone else.
The only complaints I have with the Tundra is gas mileage ( I knew going in but it's still a bitch) and it is a bitch to find a parking space much of the time. I didn't realize how much every other vehicle I've ever had was a dream to park. I love my Tundra and all but I wouldn't go upside down to get one. Plus, I hate carrying keys, so I miss push to start and unlocking when I walk up to the truck. I don't understand why toyota cheeped out on my Tundra when these features were in the tacoma.

If $25 is make or break, then sounds like you need to pass and wait a bit. If not then jump and dont look back. Only YOU can make that decision, not us.

Get the Tundra. I was in your exact shoes. Bought a brand new Tacoma Off Road. Hated it. Traded it in and got a Tundra. The only benefit of the Tacoma was the (slightly) better MPG. Tundra blows it out of the water in every other category

    Edit: nice truck!
