My 2020 Platinum was supposed to be delivered earlier this month. The dealer kept pushing the delivery date. Just got a call this week telling me that the truck is sitting at the Southeastern Toyota Distributor in Georgia. They said that 900 2020Tundra deliveries have been delayed due to what they said was a "Safety Delay." They couldn't tell me what that meant. The new delivery date is October 7 now, more than a month after I was supposed to receive the truck. Anyone else have this happen to them?

Unless there is an issue with the delivery truck/train, which I wouldn’t think would delay it a month, it sounds like they found something with the 2020 Tundras to address before it becomes a recall. I’m curious now.

Yeah that’s what I am thinking too. Hoping it isn’t further delayed beyond the October 7 date.

I went by the local dealer here in Apex and they had 3 2020s on the lot.

There are three 2020's on my local lot. They must've found an issue after they already delivered those but before my order was delivered.

That’s a bummer, let us know when you hear something. I’d be surprised if it was anything major, they didn’t even make that many changes.

I sent Mark the Tundra Dude 34 an email and he made a video about the issue. Maybe someone will chime in who is having the same issue.

I have a 2020 in my driveway now. I have had mine since Labor day, it arrived at the dealer earlier the week before (Last week in Aug). So I am very curious why they help up the trucks right after mine.

Check your VIN for recalls and see if anything comes up.

Would you have a link to where I can check that?
I would be happy to check it and let you all know if something comes up.

I followed up directly with the dealer today and it seems that select VIN's were pulled for a quality check. Mine happen to fall under it. And even though it was already sold it didn't matter. There are 900 being held for Southeastern Toyota and a total of 1500 nationwide. There are other people who have also had their deliveries delayed. But, they did emphasize that it isn't a safety issue but a quality control issue. They called it a Safety Delay last week so I will see if it arrives on the new Oct. 7th date.

I'd be at the dealer raising hell. They can QC one that hasn't been sold. I'd expect some serious compensation if they delay delivery by two weeks.

Yeah it will actually be over a month delay considering the original delivery date was August 3.

Get some money back. Oil changes for life. Car washes for life. That’s horrible! A full month delayed.

What I don't get is why they called it a Safety Delay" which made all of us effected to worry about the safety of our trucks. Maybe they should change their wording.

Bunch of sue happy Americans demanding for compensation because the manufacturer of their vehicle wanted to double check their new truck and make sure it was of upmost safety before delivering it.

It doesn't sound to me like it is anything the dealer would have any control of.
I have had this happen in the past to trucks I have ordered. I believe all manufactures practice quarantines random trucks for quality spot checks. It common part of the manufactures quality control efforts.
I have had this exact sort of thing happen with 1 Chevy truck, 2 Ram trucks and a several Ford trucks over the past decade or so. Its annoying, but as I understand it is very much a random thing.

Correct. The dealer has no say in the process. The dealer even tried to tell them that the truck is paid for but they have these things set up to keep us safe so I am happy.
