Which camper is that, i just got a cab high camper shell too. These are great overlanding trucks for 2 people, you have a lot of width to work with, plenty of room in the bed for a queen mattress and some storage. I'm building mine out to travel cross country again.

It’s a cargo body brand shell. It’s a little wider than the cab so we can actually sleep horizontally which is nice.

Ooh i scrolled back a few posts to see the progress, nicely done. Though i must admit, it's not the most attractive cap, however it's very useful if you can sleep sideways. Keep me posted with pics of the bed platform once you build it. I probably will go with something like this, most of the time it's just me but if my gf wants to come along i can put the platform extender so she can sleep too.

It’s definitely ugly but I kind of like it’s industrial look. The ambulance doors and extra height are nice too so you don’t have to crawl in and out. I can’t quite stand up in it but it’s close. Thats a pretty nice topper setup. I don’t know how complex I’m gonna get with the wood work but I’m gonna try to keep it as light as possible.

Installed the Sprinter third brake light/ backup camera.

Opened up the stock hole, put it in and wired it to the head unit.

Wow. What a great write up. It gives me a lot of ideas. I especially like how you took an older Tundra and made it a great vehicle rather than buy a new $40k plus one like a lot of us have done. I also like your cab choice because when I was growing up that is what trucks had (a single cab)--old school. The big crew cabs are nice in ways but in some ways I prefer the basic single cab (off roading), especially if I could get an older one for a good price. I love your ideas. Note to self: start looking for one of those too even though I don't need one (I want one).

Thanks for the kind words! I’m not even into this truck for half of that $40k as it sits and it’ll embarrass a stock TRD Pro all day. If you can find a 5.7 4x4, snag it!

Me too. I can’t say I’m surprised they don’t though. The market just doesn’t support the configuration. Even work trucks are going full soccer mom now.

I have been driving my 5.7L RWD RCSB for two years and love it, I doubt they will ever be building them again - so buy them when you find them. If my 2002 ever bites the dust, I would replace it with one similar to Jackalope's build.

Did you remove the bed to do this paint? Not my color choice but I still think it looks good!

Not completely. I was able to get to the back of the cab and bed by removing the bed bolts and scooting the bed back against the tire. If I had friends I would’ve pulled the bed for sure. :D

Thanks man! I don’t generally post the build on Instagram unless I do something major. Been slow progress plugging away on little things.

Three coats technically. First coat is reduced 20% and shot through a 2mm hvlp gun. Second and third are done full viscosity with the texture gun about three feet away. It’s easy to clean. Pressure washer and brush at the coin op take care of it.

Hmm i gotcha ive been looking into it but was hoping i could get it a little smoother. I realize itll never be like a factory or nice paint job slick but something between yours and slick would be nice. I heard the closer in distance you spray and if you shoot it in one coat it is a little smoother. I suppose ill be stuck to trial and error lol

If you want it smooth, a roll on product like monstaliner is your best bet.

Have you ever tried roll on products? Me and a buddy did a jeep xj probably 5ish years ago and wow it was really rough.. maybe the newer stuff isn't as bad?

Finished up the headlights. Yellow high beam reflectors and color matched bezels. Too shiny to get a good photo of on the truck .
