Like many, I was tired of chrome door handles and mirror caps and wanted to swap them out for black ones.

    Items needed:

    -Flat head screw driver
    -T30 hex wrench screw driver
-Flashlight (I used one to see where the tabs were behind the mirror)
    - (2) replacement mirror caps
    - (2-4)door handles {dependent upon your model}

    Mirrors:
Point the mirrors all the way down. You'll see two tabs at the top. Simply push the tabs down, and out with the flathead screw driver.

    Pull the mirror cap off

Align the tabs with the new mirror cap and snap on.

    Door handles:
Open the door and remove the black plastic covering on the side of the door. (I used a flat head to pry it off...don't forget to place it somewhere you won't lose it)

Use the t30 screwdriver to loosen the hex. Don't worry, it will not fall into the door-frame. It catches before hand.

Pull off the handle (they slide and pop off)

Place replacement on and slide to the left to lock it into place. Tighten the hex bolt and you're done.

So I called my dealership to see if they had door handles to replace my chrome ones. They quoted me at $650....for door handles! I told him i was going to just paint them with a sharpie.

Lmao. Check with TRDSparks. I paid half of that for handles AND mirror caps...all were OEM parts.

I ended up going with some plastidip and clear coated them. So far they are holding up allright!

GREAT write up, thank you! Just changed all my chrome out now thanks to your guide. I don't think I would have attempted it otherwise. Was super easy.

Is there some type of adhesive tape or something holding the mirror caps on? Mine are not budging. Period. No way.
I push the tab(s) down and try to push away(toward the front of the truck) and there is no movement. Nada.
    Am I missing something?
    grrr.

Mike, mine were a major PITA, but the caps came off undamaged.
I'll attach a pdf with some additional pics.
There's lots of clips. Should be no tape or adhesive.
    Good luck!

The process of removing the mirror caps is described as releasing the 2 clips at the top. This may have worked in some cases but not for me. There are 4 clips total. In my case, I released the inner clip first (closest to the body regardless of passenger or driver side). Then the top clip closest, then the second top clip and finally the outside clip. If you look at your replacement mirror caps, you'll see what I mean. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I don't have replacements(yet). I was going to dip these until I get replacements ordered and color matched. I'll have another look tomorrow.

Thanks for the write up Sean. I've had the black handles waiting on my dresser for about 2 weeks now. I'll try this tomorrow morning before work.

OK, that was really fast and easy. It's gonna take me longer to post before and after pics tonight than it took to change the handles. Having done them, I think I wanna pull 'em again and color match 'em. I'll live with 'em for a few days,,,, at least as long as it takes for the paint to show up...ha.

I lined up the bottom first because they have that downward hook to them. Then the top I carefully snapped back into place.

I didn't know it's that easy to swap out the door handles. Now I'll be in the market for a nice set of chrome door handles. As soon as I get the new eyeballs and Christmas paid for, that is.
