I was adding on an ASCL6 cellular module to my Fortin remote start and that's where things went wrong. You need the valet switch to program the Fortin to look for the "antenna". I didn't have the valet switch so I was using my own rigged up jumper to ground out the two pins on the back of the Fortin and I accidentally stuck it in the wrong plug. I stuck it in a 3 pin plug and blew the fuse on my ASCL6 and the AM2 fuse in the fuse panel. I pulled all the fuses trying to find the one that was blown, it figures that fuse was the last one I pulled. I replaced the fuses, got it programmed and working but my truck isn't the same.

First, when I put it in reverse, the camera doesn't kick on. I can force it to kick on in my Kenwood radio, but it doesn't do it by itself.

Second, when I put it in reverse it shifts to reverse but it feels like the brake is holding it. After a few seconds it will release and roll on it's own. Same for putting it in drive. If I give it gas it lunges. Parking brake is not on.

Third, ALL the warning lights are flashing on the dash. Fuel range is 0, Drive control Malfunction Warning, Towing Brake Error, Pre Collision System Malfunction.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

Well, I figured it out. I'm extremely embarrassed to say that when I was checking fuses I stuck the brake lights, reverse fuse back in the wrong location.

    Laugh away.

This "mod" was horrible. It should have been a 45 minute job, tops. I spent about 6 hours total on it. It was a simple case of "RTFM" (Read The F*cking Manual).

First step, hook the remote start to my PC and flash the firmware to enable the RF remote. Well, I missed the part that says you have to unhook the remote start unit from 12v power, so I spent about 45 minutes trying to figure out why it wouldn't connect to my PC.

Next fck up was the antenna itself. I plugged it into the wrong port on the remote start. It clearly stated in the manual what to do, and I read it, but it didn't click. The plug color on the antenna harness was black, so naturally my brain wanted to plug it into the black port on the module. Nope! It goes into the blue port. So I spent about 45 minutes trying to figure that out. Once I figured that part out I still couldn't make it remote start with my cell phone.

That's where I missed the part in the manual that states you have to put the Fortin into program mode via the valet switch, so it can "learn" that it has an antenna now. Well, when I installed my remote start I tossed the valet switch because I was like "I'll never valet this f*cker".

Little did I know that throwing away something so trivial would lead to the headache I created for myself yesterday. Instead of waiting on a valet switch I rigged my own by crimping a blade connector to a piece of wire that I grounded to the chassis. I stuck the blade connector into the 2 pin port on the Fortin and touched the two prongs together. During that process my daughter comes out to ask me if she can have some Takis. That was all the distraction I needed apparently because I stuck the blade connector into the 3 pin port instead and that's where shit really fell apart.

At least you figured it out; something that simple tends to get overlooked and the. You spend hundreds at a shop getting it diagnosed. You may feel dumb......but not as dumb as spending that kind of coin to find out something as simple as that. I say good on you for persevering and figuring it out. Breathe, have a beer or four and enjoy some football today!!!!

I Measure five times because I keep forgetting it, then cut it a little long... so that I can re-cut it three more times to creep right up on perfect. Then I keep fuggin with it until I can agree with myself that it is actually perfect. Realize it’s not, and decide if I have enough material to cut another or say fuk it, good enough. I’m a perfectionist with OCD who can never actually get it perfect. I’ve had to learn to move on if it works hahahahaha

I could never throw away the valet switch, even if I’m never going to use it. Because it came with it and you never know if you’ll need it.

    I suck!!!!:crazy::frusty::angrygirl:

This is what I have learned always buy extra. I have a ton of scrap everything that I refuse to get rid of. Because I’m sure my next project I may be able to use it after my next screwup LOL

I was going to suggest looking there, I had similar issues in my '18 when that fuse was blown due to bad LED reverse bulbs. Glad you got it worked out!

    Me too!
One freaking fuse nearly put my truck on a flat bed to the dealer. I cannot believe how bad it crippled my truck.

I had mine at the dealer and they tried to blame it on my aftermarket radio, since it had one wire plugged into the ODBII. They claimed I messed up the can bus network. I actually found the fuse myself a few hours later, after some Googling. The neutral safety switch is on the same circuit as the backup lights, so if that fuse is blown, it throws off anything that talks to the transmission.

I'm a computer based technician for a large telco. We access all sorts of devices for testing purposes then after the problem is isolated we refer the job to a hands-on technician. One day, when I was fairly new to the job, I got a call from a couple technicians that a repair was complete . I retested it and confirmed, then called the other telco who reported so they could test it as well. The tests failed. Over and over. Over the course of another hour the techs confirmed everything multiple times. Finally I went to re-do my tests, moved an application out of the way on my screen to get to the test system and saw I had left part of my test going, which would be the equivalent of fixing a carburetor, leaving it laying under the hood, and closing the hood, and wondering why the car wont start.

The point of the story is that I wasted an hour of three people's day...no one cared. Everyone was so happy it was working again that we all rejoiced and went back about our day. Why? Because they had all done the same thing many times. It was my first of many over the past 20 years, and I'm happy every damned time.

Literally just did this exact same thing again today. I've been putting out fires all day and the test screen ended up lost on the desktop like the other time many years ago.

There was no one on the phone with me this time but I fear some unknowing field technician was out there as much as two hours not knowing why he couldnt get the T1 fixed. :(

You know, when things start going this way and I can't figure something out, I go do something else for a bit. Usually, by the time I start the something else I'll have figured out the problem. Can't tell you how many times I've spent all day trying to figure out a software issue (I'm developer), and woke randomly at 2am with the answer, or on weekend when cutting grass or something.

I work in Tech Support for an electronic security software manufacturer. I can't tell you how many times I've missed something dumb when trying to troubleshoot the software. Always helps to have a fresh set of eyes spot something you may have missed.

We had a wizard in our office a while back. Guy knew everything. Sometimes when I would get stuck, instead of going over to ask him I would just imagine doing it and what he would respond with. I would say probably 50% of the time I would come up with the right answer. The answer was in me the whole time. I just needed to take the burden off myself in that moment.

I use this same technique as a screening process before I ask or tell my wife things. I already know the response. I just need to conjure it up. :O

As you can see by the responses, you are not alone in a short job taking a long time. I spent an hour looking for a nut that I heard drop and hit in the bed of the truck. Never could find it and had to run to the store to get another. That was a 10 minute job that took 1.5 hours and a few choice words. Over the years I have come to learn I have a tear in the time space continuum in my garage and sometimes tools or parts fall into it never to be seen again.
