Yeah I tried car launcher and really liked it. I use power amp and play music. Neither one worked to well with the launcher. But honestly I'm liking nova for now. Takes awhile to setup which will deter a lot of people. But the ability to have everything the exact way I want it is worth it.

Going to try the included gps antenna, if it doesn’t work well I will get the adapter to use the factory gps antenna.

included gps antennae should work just fine. just make sure to stick it to the round metal frame crossbar. You will see it once you pull your radio and look straight in. i had the tail of gps mouse pointing up. I've read the signal will amplify mounted to this cross member and it worked awesome on my friends tacoma.

The carplay/android auto is a dongle on both I believe. So either should work. I prefer the non-rotating one because it doesn't have the large DASAITA logo on the lower bezel.

I was under the impression CarPlay is built into the first one, maybe I’m wrong?

And what about Android auto? I thought because it was an android unit it would work. Do I need a dongle as well?

    Guys I mean WIRELESS CarPlay.

Is it true wireless only works on the rotating unit?

Dongle or not does not matter really as it can easily be installed behind the radio/dash. As for wireless appley-ness not sure. If the rotatable one has it built in then it would probably be able to do the wireless stuff.

The newer rotatable model doesn't need a dongle for carplay or Android auto.
The older model needs the dongle.
I have the newer model and have only tested Android auto once. In my opinion you're better off not even using it as it's to restricting on what apps and content you can view, obviously for safety reasons. The headunit does everything you could dream on its own without carplay or auto

I completely agree. All the available different Launchers allow to customize exactly what you want to see and use. Carplay and Android Auto completely limits what apps you have access to and locks the unit full potential.

The first version has been updated and no longer needs a dongle either. I wouldnt know about wireless carplay though as I dont own any apple devices.

So, stupid question. If it's not using Android auto - how is it getting internet to use music apps?

Tether. And if you are lazy like me you can setup Tasker to automatically enable tether when Bluetooth is connected and disable tether when Bluetooth is disconnected

I use CarPlay mainly for waze and Spotify, with using those apps on the unit don’t you need an internet connection? I don’t pay extra for the hotspot option on my mobile plan and don’t really want to either which is why CarPlay is nice. Plus with ios13 you can use apps like waze and Spotify and still use your phone without the maps coming off the HU screen..

Yeah that could be a problem. As far as I know everyone here hostpsots their phone. I figured every mobile plan had it included nowadays. Could just be an iPhone thing though??

You can create a Hotspot from your cellphone that your android head unit can connect to. With Android cellphones there is an app that can automate this when it senses that you are connected to the Bluetooth to your Android head unit and then deactivate the Hotspot when you disconnect from the Bluetooth. Just basically turning on and off your car will power on and off your head unit and with your Bluetooth always on and will automatically connect and disconnect. Hope this helps

nah not an iPhone thing, an att thing lol. They have 2 tiered unlimited plans, cheaper unlimited option doesn’t have hotspot, I never needed it so I didn’t feeL the need to pay extra for it, now that I want it I believe the plan jumped up a good amount more
