I know how good our ifs system is, but this is just a hypothetical for my own knowledge, if one were to want to swap an SFA onto a gen 2 tundra, could all the brake components and abs sensors be retrofitted onto the new front axle to avoid messing with those systems?

Which axle would you swap in?

There's a couple of them out there. Lots of fab work from what I can tell. All the brackets can be fabbed with some basic fabrication tools, but I wonder how the tone ring is handled.

There's also a dude with a SAS running the show circuit. All polished and powdercoated with brodozer wheels and stretched mud terrains, but I can't find a picture. Guess he's not doing to well in the show scene.

All depends on what axle you swap for the sake of brakes. As far as ABS, doubtful that you’ll easily retain it.

I did a SFA conversion on a previous truck. Front axle was a dana44 out of a Jeep Grand wagoneer, and no I did not retain ABS. at the end of the day, the possibilities are endless though, it’s just a matter of how much $ you’re willing to pay

I think this is dude. He went over his build somewhere and talked about brakes and other overlooked stuff like that, but I don't remember where. Might have been on TC. Also, thought his tires were more egregious than this.

Of course, it’s really simple, but eww, hell no. Ride in a LT Tundra, no need for SAS.

Ive owned an LT truck so yes i know how amazing it is.

Just an idea for something different. Not really looking to rock crawl, just an all around rig. I figure if i could add a divorced t-case then axle selection opens up being able to run driveshaft down either side

Look up califabrication on instagram. He's been slowly building a back halfed and solid axle swapped second gen Tundra. To say the thing is nuts is an understatement. The most recent post on it is from August third, with some periodic updates further back

If you are not specifically building it to rock crawl there’s no way I’d go SAS.
Seems like a huge waste of money to make the truck ride worse on the street and forest roads.

And it won’t rock crawl better due to loss of clearance. Used to be the SAS was better due to strength, not the case with our trucks. There is literally no scenario where the solid axle is not a giant leap backwards.

I suppose some tone rings could be fabricated, but then almost everything to do the swap would have to be custom except the axle itself (even then, the brackets would have to be custom). The 5x150mm bolt pattern would add even more difficulties since you would have to deal with the rear axle still. I think that the most fun modifications would be what you have to do to the frame. If I wanted a solid front axle I would sell my truck and buy a F-250/350 or Ram 2500/3500.

It's so tall that I wouldn't want to take that truck off-road. The only thing it's good for is a mud pit...

True for most SAS I've seen, although ive seen some do well off road at low speed with high articulation.

Not sure there are any 5x150 solid steer axles. I don't remember what the whole thing with that build is, so I'm not sure if a rear 6 lug conversion was done. Looking closely at the picture, it might have been.

Of course everything is a custom fab job. Just one of those ideas. I figure if i ever were to spend say 15k on a simple old offroad jeep, why not instead spend 15k on the tundra doing some home fab with the neighbor. In all reality it might be too much of a headache to run without abs in a daily driver

Looking into how the abs functions i agree it would be a nightmare to get abs to work with the sfa. Fabbing in the tone rings and hubs etc. the wheel pattern is one thing, i wonder if they sell adapters like they do for lots of other trucks. Same thing as wheel spacers lots of us already run. The falken truck runs dynatrack rear axle

Solid axle isn’t for high speed whoops, that’s ok ive done that before too. It’s just cool. That califabrication truck is super sweet
