I think this was a great example of why we need some kind of stickied how-to thread with links to different threads.

That way anyone that encounters something like this can consult the how-to thread, find the link to "Which factory audio system do you have?" and identify it through pictures. Otherwise this just gets buried until someone asks about it again in 6 months.

I know a few people spent some serious time putting together an armor thread and a sliders thread but it looks like those are buried as well.

Can some mod make this happen please?

Let us know. I had LEDs on my 03.taco.when the tech was.still newish and I didn't like em. But maybe the tech has caught up to the demands of a reflector headlight housings.

These last couple of posts are totally why I haven’t tried tackling swapping my own radio out yet. 9239B37A-C281-4C17-90C7-AC2E1CBC9641.jpg

I think we oughta tread lightly, we may have a Beetlejuice situation on our hands here. I mentioned him Saturday, you mention him today... Who's gonna be that unlucky SOB that summons him back?

Tacoguybill its pretty easy to swap out your radio. Just did mine with a Pioneer. Check out Crutchfields website and enter your vehicle info, they will let you know everything you need.
I have a 2006 and needed a wire harness and trim kit for the gaps on either side of the radio, its pretty straight forward. Non JBL

Keep us posted. I recently did some beamtech LEDs and I really like them. Much brighter than the factory or factory replacement bulbs and much tighter pattern than drop in hid conversions. New life for my older truck headlights. Still waiting on my resistor to use the fogs, but it will be nice. I want to do the anytime fog upgrade too. My amber led dogs might make our lake fog easier to navigate if I can shut my headlights.

@growit yeah I have JBL in mine, I called 2 local shops and was quoted around $980 for them to do it I need to look into how much all the parts are to see whether or not it’ll be worth it to have someone else do it......ok but fun fact, my current setup is a JVC-idk model double din, I’m just wanting to swap it out with touchscreen that has backup camera which leads me to 2 questions

1: if I buy something that is JVC will harnesses work?
2: How do I look something like that up?

I ended up ordering Beamtech fogs. They were cheap but have great reviews on Amazon. Am I going to need a resistor?

That's highway robbery for a radio in these trucks. Since you have a JVC now you may not even have to do any wiring to use another JVC.

Even with another brand all you should need is the head unit.

I don't think I've heard of anyone needing a resistor for the fogs. I just need one since I did my beamtech headlights. My fogs are some brand names alohashackbar or something and I didn't need a resistor for those. With my led headlights I can't get my fogs to work and when I flip the fog switch my brights come on. The resistor should fix this and beamtech sent it out for no extra charge.

Doesn’t look like a factory connector from that picture. Maybe old aftermarket alarm or remote start?

Ok I'll do that in the morning. I can tell you it has 3 ports. One was unused. One for radio and amp and one for steering controls.

i noticed your post earlier about the amp. i got my answer. lol you need an extension to bypass that amp.. and personally i'd bypass it..

i believe that third port is for a CD changer. unused on most toyotas

Took out my Kenwood single DIN to start the installation of my mini 4ch in the dash. There is enough room to install it in the dash behind the headunit. This is the 4CH I'm installing.

This is my first time using MBQuart audio products. First impressions. This thing is tiny yet heavy and is very well made. Looking forward to powering it up and seeing what it can do with my Kenwood 6.5" door speakers. Should be a hoot.

That would make the most sense I think. Makes me wonder how much towing this truck saw from the original owner.

I'll have to check. Does the actual controller normally mount to the dash under the steering wheel? There are remnants of what looks like double sided tape residue in that area.

    Thanks

I'm doing Beamtech Fogs and Lightning Dark headlights. Earlier this year you actually shared a video where they tested a bunch of LED headlights and those Lightning Dark's were at the top of the list. I thought I'd give them a try since the price was right. I know hand model ran 2 different LED's in the head and fogs and I thought he didn't end up needing a resistor.
