Welcome from Alabama. Nice colored Tundra you have there. Thank you for your service. Eight more years and I can do the same. Still love the job but it ain't what it used to be.

Unfortunately it’s not legal unless it’s shipped to an FFL. Newsom is smarter then he looks.

I put that list together last year because of a conversation I had with a co-worker. The sad part is I kept going back and adding vehicles that I had completely forgotten I had owned. I blame my dad for my vehicle problem. He trades at least as often as I do.

I’d have a similar list if I lived in a state that didn’t require sales tax on every purchase.

Are you in a sales-tax free state, or are you paying 10% on every transaction!?
Hopefully not paying sales tax, because that would be a huge MFing loss.....lol.

I spend about a year contemplating the next vehicle purchase, just because I don’t want to fuck up and buy the wrong vehicle....which could result in a huge loss paying taxes if I decide to sell.

Here in WA State, if I decide to buy a Raptor in September, then offload it in November, a Tundra in November, then offload and a Ram in December......I’m paying around $16,000.00 in taxes alone.

I leased the Tundra for 3 years. I have two teenage boys that will both start driving over that timeframe, so I need to be more conservative with our finances. I’m thinking I might start looking to trade the Tundra around the 2.5 year mark on either the next gen Tundra or 4Runner.

I have the car change problem too, but this time (lol) I feel like the Tundra may be around for a while. Only prob is I heard the new version will have a 12 inch media screen. No prob though, I can change my head unit out if need be, will prob do that anyway. But in all honesty, with the 30-35 vehicles I’ve owned, this one is top three. My old Tahoe way back in the in the 90’s was a fav, my Benz last year was fantastic, and I really liked the Explorer sport too tons of HP and Torque along with al the gadgets. I had some cars that were just cool, but old. Since I’m a little older now and retired I like things to work, not smell and be modern. I’ll prob buy a and sedan next year to go along with the Tundra. Maybe an Audi A7 or S7, something along those lines when I want to go fast.

Texas has a 6.25% sales tax on vehicles. However, if you trade in a vehicle that you either own outright or have traditional financing you only pay sales tax on the difference between the negotiated vehicle price and the negotiated trade in price. When I traded the Raptor for the 4Runner I paid no sales tax because the Raptor was valued higher than the purchase price of the 4Runner.

On leases you get screwed in Texas unless a dealer offers you some mysterious tax credits. When you lease in Texas you pay sales tax on the full capitalized cost of the vehicle. In the case of my new Tundra I paid sales tax on roughly $49,500. Many states only charge you sales tax on the cap cost minus the residual so you only pay tax on the portion you use. The real kicker in Texas is if you decide to buy out your lease at the end you have to pay sales tax AGAIN on the residual value of the vehicle. Finally, if you trade in a leased vehicle prior to the lease ending you get no tax break on your new purchase like you would if you traded in a traditionally financed vehicle. I only lease when it makes better sense for my business.
