Can someone tell me if the USB port in the 2016 is supposed to charge or if it is only for media transfer?

I was thinking I had used it for (super slow) charging in the past. However, my current phone has USB-C so I had to buy a cord. I confirmed that the cord works, but the port in my truck does not charge my phone at all.

    Thanks in advance.

Output from the factory USB port is 5V/0.5A. Most modern phones need 1.5A-2.4A to charge quicker than you burn through the battery.
