3 Cat Converters were taken from various Toyotas at a South Sacramento Hospital parking lot and my Tundra's was taken from a parking lot at the University of California at Davis yesterday, Monday Nov 29. This is from personal knowledge, nothing published in papers yet.

Any good ideas for protecting the cat converter for next time?

alarm with motion detector. Viper comes to mind. It will warn you if someone is moving your car. I would think removing the cats will trigger it.

What the shit is wrong with people. I'm not going to say I dare someone to try, but I sure as hell hope I'm near them for 2 reasons, #1- bullets are cheap and I don't fire warning short and #2- refer to number 1!

Eric, I'm sorry to hear that you were a victim of this sort of crime. I know I'd be pretty pissed off if I had this happen to me. Lucky for me I'm around 100 miles south of Sacramento so hopefully I'm safe. Also I got my truck parked under a pair of security cameras that would more than likely see them if they were to ever try.

UPDATE - At least 2 more Cat Converters were stolen from same hospital yesterday.
I happened to park my non-Tundra in between the two Tundras that both had their Cat Converters taken yesterday.
This group is bold because there are cameras everywhere and the police already have the vehicle on film.

they don't care about cameras. vehicle might be stolen or fake plates too and sometimes the cops are too busy with other stuff. Hopefully they catch them though b/c we all eventually pay for it through CA insurances rates that keep going up...

Skid plates work well as a deterrent. Thieves won't touch the cats because of the extra work involved in taking the plate off.

Just throw on some Flowmaster 40's and call it good! No cats needed. :burnrubber:

Jk... It's ridiculous loud. You'd burn your ears out. I tried it when I was installing mine. It was racetruck. My ears were damn near bleeding.

    Flux capacitor!
I know on my previous Tundra I had my train horns tied into my Viper alarm. I had the horns installed behind the front grill so they couldn't get to them easily. I had a few times when my train horns went off and no one was around after that. Plus everyone in the neighborhood was staring at my truck lol.

I do have a friend who had his stereo stolen while his vehicle was in his driveway. So he installed razor blades on the back side of the head unit. Thief came around for a second time and cut his fingers to the bone. Cops arrested him and took him to the hospital. No charges against my friend since thief was inside his property. Don't know if some thief wouldn't try and sue over that but thieves deserve the punishment.

For 3000.00+ dollars, I would get headers, cat mid pipe to stay legal, full BAMuffler dual exhaust. Pocket the extra money.

I'm just going to stay out of the gun and stealing issue.
