I am noticing a lot of rock chips on my 19 crewmax Cavalry blue. Very frustrating on a new truck! I assume it’s the colour shows them up but wondering if anyone else is having excess rock chipping on new paint? Is it soft? Poor quality? I dunno, just guessing.

The tundra does have a big 'ol front so rocks can hardly miss it.
Then again some colors tend to show that kind of damage more than others.

Paint protection film (PPF) is a must if you do lots of highway driving...

I took a work trip from Texas to California. I came home with 4 chips on the hood. I am hoping to find a color coded pen to at least cover them up. Or another option. Frustrating for sure.

Huge front end plus soft Toyota paint. I lmao lucky I don't drive much, and rarely on the highway so I have very few chips. If I drove more I would absolutely get some xpel clear film up front.

Duplicolor makes a touch up kit, and even at 20,000 I had to touch a couple little chips up (maybe 4-5... not too bad)

I try to stay way behind traffic and won’t drive behind trucks not equipped with mud flaps any closer than a hundred feet or so.

I try to remember that the rocks are not hanging in the air waiting for me; the vehicle(s) in front of me are throwing them.

The same practices have saved me from windshield chips...

I 100% agree that driving style has some impact. I try to stay a decent way back behind other vehicles, particularly big trucks with poor mudflaps. This doesn't keep me rock chip free, but I only had 4 chips on my previous Raptor at 38k miles.

All manufacturers use soft paint these days. I buy a lot of vehicles and every forum has posts about that manufacturer's crappy paint. It doesn't matter if you are talking about a Ford or a Porsche. It is just something you have to manage. I like the idea of film, but I trade too often to justify the cost. Instead, I quit following closely and started avoiding poorly maintained 18 wheelers like the plague.

I have a freind with an Xterra that looked like someone shot it with bird shot.

She is redoing her entire hood.

Using nothing but touch up paint she got online, 3000 and 5000 sand paper and a buffer

Have to say she is doing a hell of a job on it.

I agree. Unfortunately, it was many road way construction spots that got me though my windshield was saved. I will check the Duplicolor product. Thanks.

Does anyone know of fender protection product that would protect the 1” under lip that gets pummeled by rocks on gravel roads? Something like the image to fit a 2019
