Just for the heck of it, I built a Tundra on Toyota's website and noticed that the TRD exhaust wasn't offered but instead, a Borla system was. I've never seen this as an option online before. Anyone heard of anything going on? Perhaps some transitioning going on for the next gen model????

I thought I read a long time ago that Borla made the TRD exhaust for Toyota.

Just my .02: in my experience, Borla exhaust sounds great, but is loud to the point of being obnoxious. Buddy of mine had a Borla setup on his wrangler and sitting in the back seat damn near required hearing protection. I’d strongly suggest letting someone else be the guinea pig for this, then buying it only after you’ve heard it either in-person or in super-duper high def audio.

Borla use to make the TRD systems. I know on the Tacoma that BOSAL makes the 07-15 system. I've heard Gibson makes the Tundra but am not sure. I didn't see any stamps on mine. I just find it weird that the official TOYOTA website offered a BORLA brand exhaust system instead of a TRD exhaust. I've seen BORLA offered on Ford's and Chevy's website as well.

Just tried to build again but now it only lists TRD exhausts. No BORLA option given. Go figure...

I tried to order a TRD exhaust (tailpipes with the black tips) from a Toyota site over the weekend and it said “discontinued “. I immediately went to a different site and purchased just in case this was truly happening.

This may just have been a malfunctioning website. But your post makes me second guess.

With the 2021's on the horizon, you never know BUT I have a hard time seeing Toyota giving up any of that sweet, sweet TRD money. I did find where they now offer the front TRD sway bar as an add on option. Who knows!

The Borla exhaust option, as well as some other tire and wheel package offerings, the center console safe, rear USB ports, in bed LED’s, etc are only offered if you build using a zip code in the Southeast region. I think every other region offers the TRD dual exhaust and more limited options. Truly, the Southeast options seem much better to the point it may be worth building the Tundra using those zip codes and picking it (or a similarly equipped one) up in those States.

Agreed. I do know there is a company difference between Toyota and Southeast Toyota. I'm right on the border so I think the computer detected a neighboring zip code and used it.

BINGO!!!!! I used an Atlanta zip code and it works. Definitely more options offered but below is a screen shot of the Borla option. I love the style but still prefer the TRD exhaust though. I knew I wasn't crazy!

The options are incredibly better, IMO. Makes me regret buying in my region before exploring the Southeast Region site. I’m close to Nashville, TN, so I could have easily driven to a Huntsville, AL Toyota dealership. Oh well, maybe next year or later this year when some holiday incentives roll out.

I have the Borla "Touring" cat back exhaust. It's great and it's fairly quiet and smooth sounding, only barks a little you get into the throttle some. Similar to the TRD exhaust (or possibly the same). It is in no way loud or obnoxious.

Any experience between the Borla and dirty deeds standard system?

I did a Borla muffler swap on my Tacoma years ago and didn't like it. A little too much drone for my liking. Swapped to a full Gibson SISO system instead. Much better but the TRD system was my favorite on that truck. As far as Tundras go, I say our only two options are TRD and @dirtydeeds. You can't go wrong either way!
