Follow up to swapping out my tires, went with the Goodyear UltraTerrain AT. They are an exclusive to Discount Tire/America’s Tire, and were made to compete with the BFG KO2. They are severe snow rated (mountain peak) and they seem to be a cross between the KO2 and a Duratrac. Got them in an E rated LT 275/70/r18

I will update about every 5,000 miles how they’re holding up.

I wonder how the sidewalls compare to the BFG A/T?

Towed my trailer up to Glacier and back this weekend, fully loaded out with 4 people in the truck as well. Aired up to 60 psi in the rear and towed great.

Side note: Oddly enough 1 of the tires is made in the USA and the other 3 are made in Mexico. Wish Goodyear would make em in the USA like Cooper....but honestly not a big deal. Just an observation

    UPDATE!!!

Had them rotated at Discount Tire on Saturday after just over 4K miles on em. They were all either still in perfect balance or near perfect balance. Snow performance has been EXCELLENT! I’m running them unloaded pressure of 50psi front / 45psi rear. I upped the rears to 60psi when towing my trailer.

I saw these a few months ago at Discount and completely forgot to research them. Those look good. It will be hard to beat the BFG AT/KOs, but I'm glad to see some competition. Tagging this tread to follow...

BFG’s are hard to beat. Had them on my 2018. I got talked into toyo at2’s for my 2019 and can’t stand them. Tires spin every time from a stop on a slight incline or turn when it’s wet. BFG’s never did.

These Goodyear’s are in my final 3. When Im getting new tires come end of January. We have these on several work trucks and they are doing great. These tires, falken wildpeaks or cooper at3 4s are my choices. Tough choices. Congrats on your purchase.

Something I was reminded about yesterday was the BFGs I had on my last truck were horrible to keep balanced. Even with normal city/highway driving they’d be out of balance within 1,500-2,000 miles. Once that happened, anything higher than 70mph induced a vibration.

I haven’t seen the new AT3’s but I’ve been very happy with them so far. Seem to be wearing nicely, no noticeable wear, Was going to get them rotated again but then his virus stuff hit....guess I’ll have to do it myself ‍♂️ Side note....I wonder why every tire manufacturer is calling their tire “AT3”.....it’s odd

What is the weight of each tire? The Toyos are super heavy.

I tried a set of the UltraTerrains and was not pleased at all, Discount Tire was great through the process but I ended up returning them for a set of BFG's instead. They could never get them to balance and I always had a vibration in the wheel or in my seat, I took it back 2x after the initial install/balance for re-balance before I gave up and asked to swap them out. Aside from that, they were the strangest feeling tires I've ever driven on and downright scary at times. The sidewalls felt like jelly, super soft, and mushy feeling to the point where sometimes the truck felt like it was walking while on a bumpy road at highway speeds. They looked great, Discount said they've been selling a ton of them, but they just didn't work out for me.

Crazy, I've had the opposite experience.
I've got 5k miles on mine and they are really smooth at highway speeds. Towing our 6k lb TT, the sidewalls feel solid and stable.

My only complaint is they like to throw rocks a lot but I'm hoping that will translate into good winter traction.

Hope the BFG's serve you well.

Odd, my experience the exact opposite. Took very little weight to balance them, nice and firm sidewall as well. I hope the BFG’s serve you well though!

Same here, can’t wait to see how good winter traction is, will be the first winter on them but I’m sure they’ll be fine. Smooth on highway and towing 7,500lbs as well!

    Update:

Winter snow traction has been good during the initial snowfall we have had.

Tread wear has been virtually non existent.

Unfortunately, with all the roof repair going on around me....picked up a roofing nail in the shoulder of the tire and we all know what that means.....it’s toast. Had to have Discount order a new one and then drove down to Helena to get it installed. The road hazard cert saved my ass again, $33 vs $220 is worth it in my opinion. Upside, sidewall is pretty firm on these, even with only 15lbs of air in the tire on the front no less, it barely looked low!

I'm happy with mine also, 2 snowstorms in. Glad your road hazard paid for itself!
I've always bought it, but yet to cash in on it.

I had the same experience. I had 265/75/16 on my 02 and driving through the mountain curves here in Colo was almost scary! When I went into a turn it had a floating feel to it, never experienced something like that. Switched back to Wildpeaks.
