I always do spark plugs on all my cars at 30k intervals. My reasoning is for $50, you can know you've got good plugs in there. Also, pulling the plugs gives you a chance to look for head gasket problems (oil on the plug porcelain or coil, you've got a leak), etc. I guess just for peace of mind. I don't drive the Tundra (2013 V8 5.7) that much but when we do we run it hard.

No one can seem to agree on the Tundra interval as some say 30 and others say 120 and others say they're at 210 with never doing it. Anyway, here's my plugs at 60k (I changed them once already at 30k):

On my last truck they didn't look nearly that bad when I changed them at 90k

I've been looking online and can't get to the $50 price point. Can you share a link to what you are using please?

    Wow.

That is a lot of wear for an iridium plug with only 30K.

Did the other 7 look like that?

Yes, all were the same. I guess you can't really judge a plug by reading what a website says on when to change the plugs. At the very least, pull plugs every 30K at then decide if you want to change or not.

Yep, That is a heck of a lot of erosion especially at 30K. I pulled plugs out of our Infiniti and Lexus with 150K that looked like you could gap them and re-install. Maybe time for a better plug than 6 bucks apiece.

Pulling plugs in a Front WD Lexus is a major job for the bank against the engine wall. There's no way in heck that I would want to do that every 30k

I think Toyota says to change them at 100k. Mine were done at 58k per my request when it was apart for the cam tower fix. They saved the original plugs for me and they all looked like this one.20171030_171128.jpg

How come these plugs that are pictured don't have a tit on on the anode as well? I thought that was pretty much standard these days.

Yeah, those look much better than the ones I just pulled. I don't think the ones I pulled at 30 looked as bad as mine at 60. Could be driving. 2,000 RPM city driving vs. heavy off road driving which is what the last year was. So maybe really depends on use.

You may need to investigate a better grade of plug or see if you're your running too lean. Computers go wrong, I'd take those plugs to a dealership and just ask. They might do a scan to see. Plugs are a 100K thing. Like I said, I threw away plugs a 150k that looked fine

Took me to the last post (#14) to find it. TOTALLY agree. I think the OP got some sort of well packaged junk from a foreign land.

I'm at 54K miles. I plan to do mine between 60K and 70K. If they look like the OP's I'm gonna sh!t a pile of green peas 6' tall.

Nice! But, plugs just pulled were direct from Toyota. Ones I just put in were from eBay.

    Thanks for the reply.

Same spark plug brand and number or just both iridium that cross reference?

Not sure what you are asking. Used set in the photo are SK20HR11 from Toyota, new set is "same" from eBay.

Deals on ebay, and online for the OEM plugs at those low prices are knockoffs so it's no surprise they look bad. I've changed plugs on 3 of my. 5.7L Tundras with over 100k miles and they all measured within spec. It has been my experience that there is no need or benefit to change until you hit 150k.

OEM Toyota parts, specifically plugs, is best to buy from a dealer to ensure they are genuine since the aftermarket is flooded with knockoffs.

If those plugs you pulled were indeed genuine then you have a bigger problem.

Just trying to compare if that picture is an accurate before and after. If it was a spark plug that is from a different manufacturer that cross references, it wouldn't be exact. That central electrode could be a different shape, etc.

Since they are the same exact plug, you have some erosion there.

You had the dealer change them?...Or, you bought the plugs from the dealer and changed them yourself? Dishonest, lazy technicians are out there. Easier for me to believe that than your Tundra is eating it's plugs every 30K miles.

Owner experience on forums show genuine Toyota iridium plugs are typically changed around 100K to 120K as recommended, and many look like they could go further.

Yep, I replaced my plugs on my 07 at 99.6K miles. I pretty much wasted my money. The original plugs looked great. The 07 manual said to check them at 130K.
