I have cloth coming loose on my door panels around the window door locking mechanism. Can anyone give me any good advice. I've thought about trying to remove the mechanism and then gluing the cloth back. I have no idea how hard it is to get the mechanism loose without breaking anything.

    Welcome from NY.
Shouldn't be that hard. Did you try looking for YouTube videos?

Can you post a picture of what you're talking about? If it's around the plastic trim that holds the switches in place you can usually pop those out and see why the fabric is coming loose.....pics would help

I heard in the video that the unit just pries up, my experience is that on something this old when you try prying it up without being 100% sure then it just breaks and you can't find parts. I'm quite willing to try something that someone else has done.

those just pop out. The plastic that holds in all the buttons has clips behind it that snap in and they just pop out.

Go around that plastic piece carefully while prying it up, should pop out without issue.

*edit: I have popped mine out at least a dozen times each side when working on my speakers and such. My truck is a 2000 with 221,850 miles and I didn't have anything break. :notsure:

Just make sure you pry in slower, more deliberate movements. No jerking or things like that. I find that is when things break. Also, when watching that video you'll likely be able to see where those clips/tabs are located. Prying as close to those as possible should help avoid breakage.

Thanks, that's what I'm going to do right now. I plan on gluing the cloth down???

Haven't personally tried that but should work. Use a good adhesive and I would clamp the cloth down with the plastic piece removed to make sure it adheres correctly. Like at least overnight. Should work well and be an easy job.

And if there is foam or old glue left on the plastic you are gluing, make sure that's good and clean. Helps your work last longer!

IMG_2660.jpg The clips were on both ends so prying along the sides didn't do much good. Took more force than I expected. This is what it looks like and hopefully I haven't glued the clamps down to hard.

Looks ok from here. Going to have to do same after replacing this old worn material with different new material.
