I feel like there ought to be a sticky for finds like this somewhere for 1st Gens.

No affiliation, but the price is right for the mileage, 4x4 and assuming it's a lifelong southern truck (i.e. no rust issues.)

Since that AD gave the VIN #, added it as one of my vehicles at Toyota.com and it appears the belt was either inspected or replaced at 54K according to Service History !

Well, they certainly detailed it up! I'm not crazy about the custom partial black leather interior, but that's completely subjective, so if you like it or it doesn't bother you, no worries there. One thing I notice, which is not typical, is like my 2006, this one has side-impact air-bags which I like because I haul the family quite a bit and I expect my soon to be teenagers to be driving mine.

McDonough Toyota is local there in Staunton, so you could call them and ask them to check their service records to see if the TB was replaced or just checked...I find it kinda hard to believe it was replaced at 54K miles...and even if it was, it's due again. He says it's Carfax certified, so ask to see it. My truck had a long list of services and warranty work done at dealerships on the Toyota website, but it also had a long list of smaller maintenance done at independent shops that was reported to Carfax that did not show up on the Toyota website obviously. I bought a 1996 Toyota 4runner with 119K miles on it last year that showed a new TB and a ton of other work (almost $2K worth) performed at an independent shop at 114K miles. The price is a little high,...but I think these are holding their value. I overpaid by about $1K for my low mile one owner 2006 earlier this year, but I was aware of it and didn't care, cause I know how long they will last and it was in ridiculously good condition.

It's also got an LSD, so that's nice for that area as you get snow... good luck!

Hey thanks for doing that! Great to see some more detail on the service history outside of the CarFax which is sometimes vague. I do remember seeing that the TB was checked, but still nothing on whether it was replaced, so I'll see what the mechanic says when they check it on Monday. Fingers crossed!

Hehe, not gonna lie, I didn't see your link and I thought you were talking about the truck I posted a link to a while back. Either way, thank you for the tip. If I hadn't committed to this one, I would most definitely be looking into the one you shared! I'm picking up this bad boy: https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inven...ned&sortDirection=undefined#listing=253219640

Still a better buy than a new TRX at the same price point I think. But yeah - WTF level of customization to me.

I mean I guess it’s a “art” and art is subjective / but no way in hell I’d display that thing at a car show myself.
