PTZ cameras are where it get expensive. You can get decent panasonic IP cams for fairly cheap (under $500). The pricey stuff is the nvr/dvr. But you could record to a small server with a thumb drive by overwriting the data every so often. This wouldnt help if you leave town for week but you can get a bigger HD.

Experimenting with two cheap Lorex cameras and dvr. For a little over a hundred bucks they appear to be a bargain.
Not great quality but light up the dvr and send notification to my phone when motion is detected.

I also use Ring.com for my front door. Quality is freaking awesome and I love how you can set motion alerts, talk to someone (if you choose) when they are at the door whether you're home or not.

Don't you have to subscribe to their service?

No sir. Just the cloud if you want to keep the video much longer. I pay a whopping $30/annually

I haven't seen Ring. I've seen SkyBell but I like the way Ring looks a million times better. I might have to get one for my shop! We have tons of thefts in the area and right now all I have is a door/garage alarm. haha

I was looking at the ring complete system, but it looked like one would have to subscribe to the service.

This might be easier decision now.

Nope. Just the cloud storage fees. It's well worth it too. Actually, I sent one of videos to PD after having a suspicious encounter with individuals who I believe were casing properties to see who's home. Between that and our dog, I believe he made a wise decision to gtfo.

cool thing is, if it's stolen they replace it with a new one absolutely free.

They're also great with schools. They've given my daughters school two free cameras to raffle off.

Tonight we decided to buy Ring doorbell for now.

The only issue I have with some wireless cameras is the batteries. Not sure I want to be on a ladder changing them out in the winter.

I bought a SANNCE 8 camera system with DVR. Keeps 30 days worth of video on all 8. paid 240 on Amazon. Yes there are much much better camera systems. But 8 surrounds my house well and keeps all of the possible entry points covered minus what the 3 mutts in the back yard keep covered. I even mounted a camera in my garage. We leave the garage door open when Im home during the day often so wanted to keep tabs on that. Im happy with it. Remote viewing to phone, ipad or any computer with internet access. quality could be better but it was a great bang for the buck.

I just spent $1,000 on Arlo from Bestbuy. Not to happy. Picture quality is great but the batteries are going fast already. I was hoping for livestream video where you dont have to push play to view the cameras. I think I am going to take it back. It is easy set up though but its not fitting my needs.

So who can help me. I may just wire the system. I want indoor and outdoor cameras and I want to look at the monitor and see live without activating anything. I need DVR too and will add a monitor. 6-8 cameras is my hope.

I just went ahead and purchased the Ring Video Doorbell Pro and one Stick Up Cam.
The things that really made me move in this direction is i hate when the door bell rings. Dogs go crazy and just frustrates me that someone is at my door unexpected.
The other awesome features are the 1080p HD video, night vision and 2 way audio.
Not many other surveillance systems have the ability to talk to the burglars.

I will put the doorbell in place of the existing wired doorbell (obviously) and put the camera on the back of the house. Will be able to watch the dogs this way too and yell at them if they bark too much. Might get another cam for the side of the house in the future.

Right now there is a $50 off deal if you can find the link on nextdoor.com. Click the link there and it adds the discount during checkout.

Edit: This link might work: https://tracking.nextdoor.com/ct/6w...n99AC8BhrxO1vBglTmdw6th0HiulMWe9Mm1CigMRm4w==
