Fair warning to all about the Cooper AT3 4S. I took them off the truck today because I could no longer trust them. In 18,000 miles I had 3 punctures, 2 of which were unrepairable.

The last straw was today, started leaking out of nowhere in the middle of the tread in a single tread block. It was worn smooth while the others were not and it had a slight bubble to it. Got back to Discount Tire where I bought them and they got it off, told me it had internally ripped 2.5” straight down the middle through the belt package. Could have blown out on me with tires that were only a year old! GET THEM OFF MY TRUCK!!!!!

Discount Tire is AWESOME!!!! I can not recommend them enough. Always always always buy the road hazard certificates guys and gals. $26ish bucks a tire replaced my first $220 tire for $26ish bucks and today it got me another $240 tire for the same $26 bucks. They prorated me $113 back per tire for the other 3.

Went with a tire they stock at all times and don’t have to order, Goodyear Ultraterrain AT in an E rated LT275/70/r18. Time will tell but I’m happy!!!! I walked out the door for $600 and change.

Beyond impressed with the service and help from Discount Tire and again.....ALWAYS buy those certificates everyone, they’ll save your ass!

EDIT: I’ve not given up on Cooper and would be willing to try the XLT, I just don’t think I’d give the 4S another shot, just my opinion. The P Rating wasn’t enough, again only my opinion, and I’d rather have an E rated LT. Also if it helps the two managers at Discount said they were all wearing a bit weird in addition to the center rib tear so something wasn’t right with them I don’t think. Not given up on Cooper, just not for me at the moment. I’ve always had Cooper tires on my cars and have always loved them.

Here’s some pics of the new kicks, what y’all think?

You didn’t off-road with those other tires did you? Cooper has a pretty solid reputation so hopefully you just got a bad set. I understand though once you have an experience with one, it’s hard to trust them again.

I’m interested in the ultra terrains, they look good. Not to burst your bubble but i did read a post on here recently about one of those ultra terrains chunking on a regular gravel road, so it can happen to them all!!! Good luck!!

    Truck looks sharp!

Took em off road twice and on nothing crazy. The guys at the tire place said they should have been fine. The biggest thing is they stock these. I wanted to try the AT3 XLT’s but they don’t stock those either. I live an hour and a half from Discount Tire so ordering and driving back and forth is a drag an not worth it. Have the certificates on them so honestly don’t mind having issues, but if they can get rectified without having to order the tire that is what I need. I don’t anticipate issues with the LT now though. Haven’t sworn off Cooper, just wont be getting the 4S version of the AT3 again for the truck

I get that you had issues and it sounds like you ended up feeling unsafe on the tires but, I don’t think it’s logical to blame the tire for getting a puncture.
You run over a nail it punctures the tire. Why blame the tire?

Glad your store took care of you and yes, I always recommend my customers buy tires that we keep in stock.
    K02’s, Nittos, Goodyear’s, etc.
We stock some coopers but only our DTC Exclusive ATP’s and HTP’s.

That’s what I thought when I had the 1st one no big deal it was a screw, it happens. The second time it was a 7” piece of rebar, what tire wouldn’t loose that war. The 3rd time was just too much of a coincidence for me and having failed with no apparent external damage was the final straw for me. I had only had them a year and too many issues for me, and I certainly did not trust them. Didn’t seem to be very durable. Rotated religiously and checked pressure monthly. The XLT’s may be a different story but the p rated on the truck didn’t seem to be up to the challenge.

It’s only my opinion, but I would steer clear of the 4S on a heavy vehicle. I’m still willing to give Cooper a shot, just needs to be an LT tire. Because I was locked into Discount Tire and couldn’t afford to wait for a tire order, swapped brands. Tire Rama is local in town and they are primarily a Cooper dealer, but I’m not a fan of them as a company. I LOVE Discount Tire and plan to stay loyal to them. Great service ALWAYS! They rock!

OP, sorry to hear about your issues with the 4S, but I’m loving mine. Traction in rain and snow have been great. Also a pretty quiet tire. That said, I don’t think they could handle any serious off-roading. I’d move to the XLT for that.

No need for a PSA...no tire is perfect...First complaint here about the 4S doesn't warrant it.....

I’ll modify the title, you’re right. I just had a bad experience. Want others to be aware of what could happen with the 4S.

I just had mine installed in March, and at least two different tire places in my areas seem to stock them.

Gotcha. I know there is the original AT3, then the new ones are the AT3 4S, the AT3 LT, and the AT3 XLT right?

Correct. I'm seriously considering the XLT's, although the Maxx's and STT Pro's are on my radar since I've owned both.

So I had them installed by my trusted independent mechanic because his price was the cheapest at the time. Unfortunately, because he has a small independent shop, he can't offer a road hazard warranty. Luckily, a nearby Mavis Discount Tire gave agave me a warranty on all of my tires for $72, when the tires already had 12K miles on them!
