Looking at a 2017 platinum with 27,000 miles. Dealership is asking $39,000 before ttl. I feel like in order to justify this price versus getting a 2019 close out, I need to get them down close to $35,000.
Does the original Toyota warranty apply to me or only to the first owner?

If it does, how long do I have left on it?

Sounds like I inherit the warranty.

Am I crazy to try for 35k?

Try it, however I don't think they'll go lower than $37k especially with that mileage.

Lower the better for buyer! Also, compare used financing rates vs new, payment may be close to a wash with new.

I think they can go lower than that. Granted I have a 2wd but when I tried to trade in my 17 for a 4wd I was only offered 29k with similar mileage. For that price I’d rather have a 2019

Edit: just noticed you said platinum, but I still think there should be some wiggle room

I would tend to agree 37K is likely low as they would go. Used cars are unique to a degree no two are exactly a like, where new there could be multiple dealers in any given area with essentially identical trucks for sale all wanting to earn your business. Plus rebates, and hold back, dealer factory bonus money for hitting certain unit sales goals, etc. etc.
Used trucks dealers tend to be less flexible with the prices.

Yes the remainder of the original factory warranty follows the vehicle. You would have to ask the dealer for details based on that trucks Vin to find out its original sale date.
If it was sold originally fall of 2016 it could be for the most part out of warranty.

I just bought a 2017 with 12k miles. It still has the bumper to bumper and power train. The warranty will carry over until the time frame (3/5 years) or mileage (30/50k) is reached. At that mileage you will only have the power train warranty left.

One thing I saw on the forum in a two separate posts is the 2019s issue with high A/T temp when reversing up a gradient with a trailer/load. It was mentioned that they did away with an auxiliary cooler in the 2019s... something to think about at least.

Another way to justify paying up is to have them throw in $1-2k of parts and labor ... it never hurts to ask especially if you planned on upgrading the grille, exhaust, air intake, suspension, etc. Based on what I paid I would say that it is not out of the question to talk them down a few grand. Best of luck!

I had a deal set for a 2017 Platinum with 28k miles for $39,500 out the door here in California. After factoring in interest over the course of the loan. I elected to go new. You should certainly be able to get them down.

It looks like Toyota has $3,500 factory incentives still. So, take the cost of a new 2019 truck, multiply by 0.112 (other recent posts on the forum have stated that owners get discounted 11.2% off a new 2019), then subtract the factory incentives and you have the price of your new truck. Depending on your options MSRP is $48+. Using $48k as a base for a new 2019 Platinum you should get it for:

    $48,000 - ($48,000 X 0.112) - $3,500 = $39,124 plus fees.

Thanks for the info. The dealer is not Toyota, so dealing on price is the only way to go. I figure i can get a 19 platinum for 45-48k. Ill see how low they’ll go. Part of me does not want the TSS anyway. Ill post updates. KBB trade-in is around 34k so If they really paid that much for it, they’re not going to go much lower than 37 I would agree. The other problem is I drove it last night. Now that’s all I’m thinking about.

Summer 2016 I was looking at a 2015 platinum with 15000 km, after doing the math I waited till september bought a new limited DC for cheaper plus way better interest rates. I wanted the long box also no need for a big cab got no kids just a couple small dogs! Plus a got a better trade in for my 2008 Tacoma.

Get a few less options and buy a new 2019 and have NO problems.

I tried buying a 2012 limited in 2014 with 24k miles. Couldn't get them below $39k and they sent it to auction (had been sitting on lot for over 100 days). Walked over to new car side and bought 2014 Limited Crewmax 4x4 for $40,800. Buy new
