Brother just got recall notice on his F-150 Backseat issues. I keep telling him think he will soon be Tundra owner.

All makers have their own recalls.
At least they are recalling them after years of problems.

I would never own a ford but test drove them to keep an open mind.

Always go back to Toyota though.

We had a 2007 Camry hybrid with 100,300 mi. Hybrid battery failed 300 miles out of warranty, Toyota good willed it.

Parents have a 2015 Fusion hybrid, battery failed in warranty at 42k. Ford tried to blame everything to not do it under warranty.

Really? Tundra has a bunch. Leaking cam shaft seals anyone?

Yep. There are a lot of tundra owners on this forum who would love to see a recall on the cam tower leak issue.

If the way you keep your number of recalls down is by not acknowledging that there’s a legitimate problem, that’s a different and arguably worse kind of crappy.

Yup, 3 for me as well. Just got one yesterday for my ECU and emissions. Not too bad I guess, but my Tacomas and FJ didn't have this many recalls in 13 years.

I’d rather a minor cam shaft seal malfunction than a door refusing to stay closed or an engine blowing up. Just saying.

Besides the cam shaft and AIP issue, I don’t know of any other major recalls for Tundras.

Granted, every single manufacturer will have problems, regardless. But tundra’s reliability is second to none. That’s why I and countless others, bought one.

Do you think tundras dont catch on fire? i can think of two on this forum alone. my point is to not throw stones like the OP is implying. Tundra is last in about every category when measured against the competition.
    heres one...

I had two recalls on my 2018 Tundra before the cam towers started leaking at 8,000 miles, had the engine opened up 3 times and then had to be bought back by the dealer. :eek2:

All except reliability and annual maintenance costs. That’s my point.

    https://www.trucks.com/2019/02/13/toyota-tundra-chevy-silverado-tops-dependability/

I didn’t, nor will I contest tundra has their problems - every manufactured vehicle does (as I said) - but you can’t ignore the simple fact that in spite of their outdated engine, drivetrain, tech, etc, tundras come out on top in reliability.

If you buy a new truck every year or every 5 years, it doesn’t make a difference which truck you choose. Now if you drive your truck 10 years and over 150k miles, or whatever, then tundra is most likely the full size truck that will go the distance.

Again, I’ll say I would much rather a small cam shaft seal malfunction than some of the major problems fords have had with their recent trucks. You can’t deny their level of quality has declined in recent years.

I just recently traded my F150 for a Tundra. I’m happy with my decision.

Wait a minute. You said Tundra, but I’m sure you meant F150 or Silverado or Ram...we all know that stuff doesn’t happen to Toyotas!

Too true. Seems to be across the board, Toyota included. Look at the 3rd gen Tacoma. There’s a reason they call it “Turd Gen”

    No doubt.

I’m not an expert, but IIRC, it’s due to low engine output, right?

I agree with you for the most part, but I wouldn't call an oil leak that requires the top end to be opened up a "small malfunction". It opens the possibility for other issues having your engine opened up, as was evident by my case, and it's happening on trucks with very low miles.

Anyway, just my opinion. Carry on! ;)

I can see where you’re coming from. I should have clarified when I said “small malfunction”, I meant most of these cam shaft leakages are very minor and would barely be noticeable if it wasn’t visible from under the wheel well.

The undertaking to fix the problem is another story altogether! I agree LOL
